Mazda was suppose to provide updates 3x a year but stopped doing so in 2016. The last update was in December.

Mazda Canada has chosen not to respond to my inquiry. TomTom, the supplier of maps to Mazda says they provide Mazda map updates regularly, at least 3x a year as they do with their GPS customers. If Mazda doesn't update their servers, they can't help us Mazda customers out.

TomTom is not the supplier for the 2014+ MZ3 navi...

Pretty dissapointing that there are no recent updates, the maps are missing 2 highways in the Eastern side of GTA (407 extension and 412, but these are new), plus some newer roads North of Toronto.

2014 had TomTom.

2015+ has Navteq

We have 2 GPS systems. The one run by TomTom offers 1 free upgrade within a certain time frame (I believe 90 days from purchase) The Mazda Connect however is the Naviextras one. They offer upgrades in the spring in fall (or so they say).

Go here for Mazda Connect http://infotainment.mazdahandsfree.com/vehicle_select?language=en-CA
Old system is Tomtom: http://mazdanav.com/
Much earlier Mazdas is Denso http://www.mazdanavigation.com/Instructions/

I've asked Mazda about the cost of updates beyond 3 years with no response. If you were an early 2014 model free updates will likely expire soon.

Hope this helps.

There is obviously a lot of confusion surrounding the map updates. This all makes sense now. With the 2014 models, there is a 3 year subscription. You can verify this when you access your account by a standalone app downloaded to your PC called Mazda Toolbox. In our case, the car was purchased in April 2014 and the subscription ends on the same date in 2017 as indicated in Mazda Toolbox: https://mazda-na.naviextras.com/shop/portal/downloads which checks the SD card and Mazda's database for any map updates.

So if Mazda dropped TomTom in favor of Navteq in 2015, those Mazda 2014 owners who have factory GPS standard with their model may not be aware especially if they are told inaccurate information that they aren't eligible for updates when in fact they are. I suggest those affected email Mazda Canada so they can document your situation. I would also ask that they extend your subscription by at least a year or have them provide us a Navteq version instead with one year full map updates. I have requested an escalation of this issue and I have sent emails to: Mike Collinson mcollins@mazda.ca and mciep@mazda.ca

If you have the TOM TOM, you can get whats called "map sharing" I'm not sure how exactly it works on their end but it maps your data of driving and somehow creates a road. If you have the file sharing enabled on your device, from my understanding when you plug the map card in to your computer and logon through the software it will then create a "patch" file for all sharing users and add it to your map. This is how I understand this. And from my previous time of putting the map in the computer it did add a "map share" update. I am interested to see if the 412 gets added on.
