110% yes...Axis destroys any other locking mechanism I've ever experienced. Axis-Assist is my fave, make sure your next Benchmade has it.

Yeh it won't be worth your time to send yours back just to buy mine. Plus now that I checked my order I paid more than they offer it for now so isn't worth it

shift8 how you liking the Rush 24?

I have a Rush 12 arriving this afternoon...was on sale in sandstone and I'm a bit hesitant about that colour but will see what it looks like in person

Looking for a great bag to carry all my EDC toys on a day to day basis but don't want to look like I'm going to war

The 24 is amazing. You're going to love the 12. I got the 24 because I use it as my carry on when traveling for work etc. Black is really nice. Feel like the tan is going to look nicer in person then on the website.

The 24 is definitely a multi day carry all for travel. I can put clothes, overnight stuff, laptop, electronics etc instead of a small roller luggage.

The 12 is going to be real nice. I don't even have any molle stuff yet and that could free up a bunch of stuff.

For a day bag, I think the 12 will be nicer. The 24 empty is already kinda beefy (weight wise).

I bought a cheaper bag recently on Amazon thinking I'd save some money and get the same results but as I opened the box I made the decision to return it...

I agree with you that I think the sandstone will look better in person. I think when they photograph it for online pics it makes the colour look more yellow. I saw a YouTube review vid where it looks a lot more faded and that's how I'm hoping it looks.

I've had so many backpacks because I've traveled a lot for work. Cheap backpacks are terrible and I was tired of half assing it so I went full as this time. No ****s given!

Pics show all my Bell equipment that needs to go back. About 3/4 full in the main pouch. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/8727fac4064b5b2ceee194727477f9a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/163b643852566bd29e87cd213a328dcb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/be3617966b5074c297f1a2478444faef.jpg

It puts any cellphone flashlight to shame.

Also it's right at the edge of being too big for a keyring, but after a few days I forgot that it was in my pocket.

First or last one IMO. The first one if you're actually going to use. The last one if you want the knife just to look at/for show.

Just get an entry level fire safe for storage:

If you don't already have a bigger safe for passports and such, it's worth getting the larger one. You really want a fire/water rated safe since it would save things for reasons other then theft/safety.

Yup, it's more of a collectors item then a useful tool. If you want to use it, get one of the other two, although I like the blade shape of the first one better.

The only difference between a watch or a nice pen for example is you can take really good care of it while using it and keep it in pretty mint condition

A knife on the other hand if you really use it a lot it wears so in that sense it's kind of like an expensive car

I honestly just buy these items randomly and replace as needed.

Id say 99% of the pocket knives I had were free premiums or cost me less than $50

I'll spend the money on cool shit - novelty knives like butterfly and belt knives or throwing knives etc

Cool thread.

Here's my EDC kit. Only day to day thing in my pockets that's missing in photo is a belt clip with door cards on it.

Other EDC item that's always with me, though in my laptop bag and not on my person, is a Picquic multi-screwdriver.

Car key
My newly discovered and immediately loved Gerber Dime
Keysmart extended - 1 house key, all other work keys plus a 32GB USB drive

http://i67.tinypic.com/6nrv9l.jpg

I used to carry a Leatherman Wave, but it was big / heavy overkill for what I actually used it for. The Wave is still awesome, but it's been re-assigned to glove-box duty so it's still available if needed. The Dime is pocket heaven for my current needs, and that bottle opener is actually pretty dang awesome.

^^^ Not gonna lie, it's a bit of a battle to get it exactly how you want it. I have 2 now and love them to bits now that I don't need to take them apart again.

My first one was a compact model titanium version, got it for $20 or something on a boxing day or black friday deal. But quickly found that my larger work keys weren't such a great fit (my primary reason for getting one). The idea proved to work for my pocket though.

Got another one when the extended went on sale. I now have a home edition with my home related keys and a bottle opener, and my work edition as pictured above.

From studum's post above, how many of you still walk around with the buck tag code to get keys cut if you loose them? I see studum still has and have run into a few at the dealership with them on their EDC.

studum
09-26-2017, 09:22 AM
I do not, what you see in my pic is a gym tag. Easier to keep it on car key, which I generally always have, then on the keysmarts which I swap out.

I keep my key code filed away with the rest of my documentation for the car.

SonicBoy
09-26-2017, 10:27 AM
Good practice. Looked like the vehicle tag.

Do you find your Key Smart gets loose often?

studum

Often - no. From time to time, sure. I just tighten as needed with my thumb nail when needed.

Nice collection. No serrated knives? I like serrated knives, just in case my whitewater raft flips over and I need to cut myself free or cut up some cardboard when I take out the garbage.

I have two with serrations, like the look but would rather have more plain blade

I find a sharp straight blade cuts cardboard way better than serrated.

Knife that has cut cardboard the best has been my Opinel No.8

It slices through with ease and the knife itself is so cheap

Cardboard deserves better. Cardboard = Benchmade or better.

So what do you recommend in a similar or smaller form factor around the $20 price point ?

Fenix UC02 is pretty awesome for a small light..I own a couple of them and have given a few as gifts. Quite a bit smaller (keychain sized), micro USB rechargable directly, 10180 cell included, two modes 130 and 10 lumens (the microstream is single brightness at 45 lumens), costs $35 which is right in line with the microstream's normal price.

That said, streamlight generally makes higher quality torches than fenix.

Didn’t post this earlier but a little while ago they released a follow up to the Spyderco Paramilitary 2...

It’s called the Para 3 and of course I had to have it...

It’s quite a bit smaller, easier to handle and looks less murderous which is always a good thing

Had a friend “bring” in a Flashlight-slash-taser for me, from a recent trip overseas.

I’d take a vid of it - but scared to death I’m gonna tase myself in the process LOL

Just gotta figure a way to keep it charged and hidden- yet still quickly accessible in the event of an emergency.

And yes, I know there are legal issues to own a taser in Canada.

10 year wedding anniversary gift...

Chris Reeve Knives Small Inkosi
US $375 price tag but the quality really is exceptional...very unnecessary indeed

But now I want a Large Sebenza 21 which retails for US $410 and that’ll be the extent of higher priced knives for me

For the most part anything in the US $200 range is the limit of diminishing returns especially since you really want to beat up on these things
