Hey Guys & Gals,

Any helpful tips on where to take your car in for your 16000KM check up/oil change etc.? Went to Morningside Mazda where I got my car for my first oil change, they did a pretty good job. Got it washed, wheels pumped, detailed, oil changed, etc. for about 60 bucks. I was thinking about taking to it Markham Mazda and give them a 2nd look as my brother and I got jerked around quite a bit since we both were looking at getting Mazda\'s, I a Mazda 3 and my brother an RX-8. I\'m looking to go this weekend, Saturday morning before the meet, any ideas where I can get a good job? Cuz I know Avante at Steeles is always quite booked up on the weekends.

I will bite my tongue and just hope you will NOT go to MM. Search within this section to see how many ppl will agree.

So how bad is Morningside Mazda? So far I haven\'t had a lot of trouble (mind you I just had oil changes) however there was this incident with a service rep who picked up the phone and booked me for service on the weekend. Problem is he didn\'t ask for any information like name, plate number, type of car. Said it wasn\'t necessary...??

I did challenge them on the cost for their 16K service. I told them that another dealeship quoted me a cheaper price. At first they said that the reason their price is higher is because they use additional lube kits that other dealerships might not use, but then they agreed to match it.

Sorry, I meant Spanish_Gino\'s second reference of MM ... not the one you mentioned, Illmatic. :)

I paid $62 w/tax but forgot to ask member discount at Avante RH

I asked them no need to rotate tires cause I changed to winter tires later.

The 16,000km service costs $72.75 for the following:

-Replace oil and filter
-Lube all locks and hinges
-Inspect all fluids
-Inspect all light functions
-Inspect tire inflation and wear
-Rotate tires (Mazda3 and MPV) some people have requested not to have this performed.

*Don\'t forget to mention that your a club member when you speak to your service advisor.

Hey Flipspeed,

do we get a discount on regular services for being a club member? If so, does it apply at the Richmond Hill Avante as well?

Sorry the discount only applies to parts not service. So you\'ll get 17% on the parts only. This also applies for the Richmond Hill location.

FLIPSPEED - How much do they take off if you bring in your own oil?

FYI, I just brought my car in for the 16000 km maintenance check-up where they: changed oil and filter, did a tire pressure test and visual inspection of the tires, checked all fluid levels, inspected belt hoses, and checked all lights. The 8000 km interval cost me $33.88 with tax and this one cost me $26.98 with tax, with my supplying 5L of Mobil1 0W20 synthetic oil (cost of $41.34 with taxes at Canadian Tire)....so this service call REALLY cost me $68.32 in total (roughly double the cost of using just the regular 5W20 oil). Considering Mazda in Sudbury charges $89.95+ tax for a synthetic oil change, I saved over $35 by supplying my own oil! No need for tire rotation since I just had my winter rims/tires installed 3 weeks ago. I asked the Service Manager and he told me the only difference between the 8000 km and the 16000 km check is tire rotation (????)

I just came back from the dealer. I supplied my own own, Mobil1 0W20. I paid $18.10 when it was all said and done. As for the club discount, they said it does not apply to oil changes.

FLIPSPEED can you shed some light on this.

Also, am I suppose to tell them that I am comming in for my 16000 KM service or ar they suppose to know by my KM\'s. I did not mention anything and all they did was my oil change and fix the Air Bag Censor as the was a recall on it.

it applies to parts ONLY.. so go buy your cartridge+O ring (2.3) or the spinon (2.0) from parts and you\'ll save on that... then pay for them to drain/install/refil if you bring your own oil.. presto

EDIT: PS you do not need the O ring every time AFAIK.. every second oil change will be fine .. i think i paid 12 bux taxes in for cartrige and o ring but haven\'t used it yet

Do what majic says, purchase the filter and o-ring from parts then bring everything when you come in. If it was an oil change special than it\'s $26.95. It\'s Mazda Canada\'s price and no dealership can change that price.

Actually you should replace the large housing o-ring every oil change. There\'s a smaller o-ring on the small bolt at the bottom of the cartridge housing that you don\'t always have to replace

Can someone shed some light on my 16000KM service question please.

Read my other message in this thread. I broke it down by how much I paid for 8000KM service versus 16000KM service and exactly what the dealership did to my car....

Ya but I went in expecting to have my 16000KM service done and all I got was an oil change. Am i suppose to tell them I want my 16000KM service done or is it something that is automatic?

You have to tell your service advisor what you\'re coming in for.

ZoomZoom Girl

Bingo....I make sure to say \"I\'m coming in for my XXXkm service\" and ask them, when I drop the car off, exactly what they\'ll be doing. No surprises that way...

I did not know that. In future I will mention that. Another thing. I took out the left over oil from my trunk (as I brought my own oil) and noticed something. The left over bottle was never opened therefore only 4 liters were used as oppose to 4.2. Is this ok or should a complain? Should I just put in the remaining .2L myself?

leave the car parked on a flat surface for a while (overnight is best)....then check the dipstick to see if you really do need to add any oil.

it is better to be underfilled by a little than overfilled (when talking about engine oil)

My car has 13,000 kms on it and my next service is scheduled for January or 16,900 kms. I doubt I\'ll reach 16,900 kms for at least a few months - what is the reasoning behind the 6 month due date? Does the oil break down of go bad after 6 months? For those in the City that hardly drive, do you always stick to servicing every 6 months? I\'ll definitely stick to my schedule for warranty reasons, but I was just wondering out of curiosity. thanks!

depends on how you drive the car, Mazda recommends 8000km or 4 mths which ever comes 1st. if you take care your car so much, change oil every 4 mths if you have lower mileage; if you don\'t care it cause you will trade in for another car several yrs later, change it by the mileage.;)

The dealer does all this uncessary stuff to your car if you ask for a certain KM interval service. I just ask the for oil, filter, or i\'ll do it myself when its warm outside. And Mazda doesn\'t lubricate the hinges, so I do that myself.

The car is new shouldn\'t need anything for more than oil for the first 24000KM. After that you should get an air filter. If you want a coolant flush.
