View Full Version : High oil pressure..?

Just installed an oil pressure gauge in my car (gauge is second hand). This is along with a spin-on filter conversion. T'd off the where pressure sensor is keeping original and adding sending unit from new gauge. It's a glow shift 7 led unit. Pressure seems really high. Cold start almost pegs gauge at 100psi. Then settles as it gets warm. Once warm idle is around 25psi, but soon as revs rise, the pressure spikes really quickly again. Running almost 80psi at around 3k rpm. Seems like once pressure hits over 35psi the gauge rises incredibly quick to 60+. Considering swapping out sending unit. I know my ground is good from sending unit as it's right to negative terminal on battery. Or is there a possibility the gauge is correct and my oil pressure is that high?

From what i remember, that's fine and normal.
The harder the engine works the higher the pressure. That's normal

The 2.0L is spec'd to 75 psi at 3k and the 2.5 can reach 95.

Hence, it's not the best idea to go hard on the engine when cold.

The engine runs the rpm a few notches higher to build oil pressure during start up. Once the flow gets going through the engine, the ecu will pull the rpm back. In winter months just wait 5 minutes. Summer months the needle will drop pretty fast and you'll be on your way.

Ok. Will just leave as is. I assumed running a 2.3L with nearly 250k on it, the oil pressure wouldn't still be quite so high. Although I do not run the piss oil that's recommended(5w20). I run 5w30 full synthetic.
