Be honest and vote accordingly. :D

For those who don\'t know (http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=1483067)

It depends where I drop the item. if its at home on the floor or carpet then i dive after it cause my mom mops everyday and I vacuum every week. If i drop something on the subway for instance that\'s a whole different ballgame. I would pick it up but to drop in the garbage. I know some people who have a 5 day rule for dropping food in their car.

Being Asian, you know what kinda flexes we have so nothing will hit the ground ;)

1. The location of the incident.
2. How hungry I am :D
3. Is anyone looking.
4. What was dropped? What is the consistency of the item i.e. cookie vs. jello

I really could make a flow chart outta this...hmmm...how much time do I have at work today :)

Interesting this was one of the small topics last night during a Korean dinner with gf and two friends. I dove right after my dropped chillied radish. :p

if it tastes good, then probably I\'d make it a 15 second rule... if not, the dog can have it.:p

(Side Note: I thought at first you were talking about the 2 second rule about following cars)

On the floor? You\'r kidding..... well depends on where, for sure not at the restaurant or anywhere other than at home. It\'s not about germs but also dust and other contaminations.

But that\'s the whole point of the \"5 Second Rule\", it generally takes dust, germs and other contaminants over 5 seconds to \"latch onto\" your food. ;)

At home no problem but in a public place forget about it.

Dry food, perhaps. But food is usually wet and have oil and sauce over it.... and will stick dust right away...

Home, I have no problem, although it may as dirty as outside:D , but in public I will pick it up or kick it under the table:p

I think you need another option in your poll:

Yes, depending on where and what kind of food.

That would be my answer. :)

It depends on what/where. I only pickup and eat if it\'s at my own house. Even then, it has to be some type of dry food (ie. peanut, chocolate, etc.). If it\'s wet and something I really want to eat, I *might* run it under the tap for a few seconds.

Even though my wife is a neat freak and our condo is always spotless, I just couldn\'t eat anything that fell on the floor.

In a public place (esp. a nasty ass ghetto restaurant or a Chinese restaurant), I tihink of all the shoes that have been in that sick washroom with piss all over the floor, treading all those people\'s urine all over the rest of the place. I\'ll gladly pass on that chunk of food, thank you very much!

I only do it for dry food.. altho, one time I dropped a peanut M&M on the floor and I dove right for it.. popped it into my mouth and realized it wasn\'t the M&M!! not sure what it was but it went straight into the trash.. weird thing was I don\'t remember ever finding that M&M.. maybe it rolled under the sofa further than I thought..

They had an episode in regards to this on mythbusters. End result... Upon contact, bateria will \'infect\' the food regardless of time.
Boring late nights = watching some interesting tv. :)

I agree with most... it would depend on what type of food and where...

I think MythBusters is a good show...

i go with the 10 second rule.... but it really depends on where something falls now doesn\'t it?

I was under the impression this thread was based on food falling onto the table vs floor. If food falls on the floor, it stays out of my body.
