Hi ,
since a month I got a really annoying problem with my mazda 3 , when I pump gas, the pump trigger keeps stopping before my tank is full. I would pull and hold the trigger and a second later it would release. I've tried different gas stations and it's all the same.I searched on the internet , and I can't find any true solution to this so here I am , here is some picture to show you what I think the problem might be (Note : The picture is not from me but from some google research and youtube video ) :
Here is the plan of the Evap System :

And here is a picture of what I think could be the problem :

Supposing that the first thing circled in red in the 1st picture is the same thing as in the second , could it be the problem ? There is a little filter in that thing so my guess is that it could be clogged or something like this , am I right to think this ?
My car is a Mazda 3 2008 2.3 with 180k
Have you ever tried backing it out a bit? (The pump) on my car if I push it in to much it does that

i've had this happen in the past. From what i read it was because i had over filled it previously (after it stops, i kept going to round up to the next even dollar).
what i did was remove the gas cap, and run the car for a little bit. i didn't drive it around, just idled it. once i did that and gave it a sleep cycle i was able to fill it normally. This happened a few times, because i forgot to mention to my wife to stop overfilling and when i go to pump up and it happend again, i just opened the cap and idled
I think if you overfill, it can cause backup into the EVAP system. not sure if i'd explain it correctly but what i was told was basically the excess fuel that was sitting there even though your tank on a whole is empty is tricking the pump into thinking it's already full because of the excess air pressure triggering the pump shut off

It is very important not to overfill. Once fuel goes into EVAP, depending on the car, this can be an expensive repair. The EVAP canister itself costs money, but also the work to access it.
I know on my older Audi, this was repaired at a significant cost just because you had to lower the tank to replace the canister.

I removed the filter and since , I filled up my car 3 times without any problem. So I guess it was the culprit. I do not plan to replace the filter anyway, it can't be bought alone and it doesn't seem to be realy useful.

The filter at the end of the vent valve : https://s15.postimg.org/3tr0fztvr/slide_1.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/3tr0fztvr/)
it was quite dirty : https://s29.postimg.org/i06dx03fn/15369719_10154268094083042_1048615976_o.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/i06dx03fn/)
To my knowledge , this filter can't be bought alone , you've got to replace the whole tube to the "charcoal canister" , so ..... Anyway like I said before , it doesn't seem to be very useful or necesary .... As long as I can fill up my car in less than 20 minute it's fine by me :)

The filter was quite dirty but then you say it doesn't appear to be useful....

what i meant is that the filter is the culprit , so I have to remove it so I can fill up my car again but I don't need to replace it with another and everything will be just fine even without any replacement filter, I think you misunderstood what I said

Yeah there was some confusion, sorry. I would be very worried not using that filter if that how dirty it became. How much longer are you planning on having your Mazda?

That dirt now goes into the combustion chamber with your fuel. Would be a good idea to replace it.

It would be the best option , I know , but I can't find a replacement filter anywhere even the stealership doesn't have any clue :S

Wow, funny. This happened to me recently. I'd be almost empty, and the pump would stop at $5.
That being said, once it fills and it clicks, I always stop and never go to the next click – which I know some people do.
I don't have a solution, but I tried different Petros and (to me) it seems like some nozzles go further in than others.

The length of the nozzle doesn't really matter, it's all about how you use the nozzel you have.

So your saying its not the size that matters...
