View Full Version : Dropping a bolt in the engine bay
Whilst installing the grounding kit I dropped a small bolt into the engine bay. I heard it bounce off one of the plastic panels in the bottom and I\'d assume it\'s settled in there. It\'s too far down to reach and take it out, and I can\'t even see it. Will it fall out eventually, or is there a way to get it out? I don\'t like the idea of a loose bolt in my engine bay...

snake it down into the engine bay where you think the bolt is and it should \"find\" it.

some of the screws are made of plastic tho... so for those ones, you just pray that they find their way out of there.

didn\'t read the whole thing before replying... the plastic panel you said it hit is probably the thing you have to remove to do an oil filter change. if you\'ve already driven the car since the bolt fell, the bolt has most likely fallen out and has now gone bye bye.
you can remove the plastic panel underneath the car following the instructions in the oil change thread.

you can get one of those 3\' long \"extractors\" for lack of better term.. it\'s like a claw on a flexible shaft.. it\'s saved my ass too many times.

Lent? Lent comes before Easter. Advent comes before Christmas.

I call it your \"arm\". Seriously, I think it\'s called an extractor and you\'ll probably find it at one of those electronics surplus stores on Queen St. W. The problem is, you have to be able to see the bolt before you can pull it out.

What do you expect to hear it say? \"Help me!\" C\'mon, it\'s free now, it go where ever it wants to instead of living out it\'s entire life stuck in it\'s little hole. :sarc
I haven\'t been able to find it yet. I don\'t hear it either...I think it might\'ve fallen out on its own...
I\'ll probably never know :(

This thread has become an impromptu fetish topic from the looks of it, what with all the mechanical arms and asses and screws...
