So, i just got my very first ticket and its because i parked near a fire hydrant. I didnt notice the fire hydrant until after i saw the ticket.

What should I do? I dont want to pay that much for a ticket? Any advise please? Thank you

Pay the ticket and notice the fire hydrant next time :P on a serious note, there's not too much you can do with it other than go to court and ask for the judge to bring down the fine.

Just pay the $100 ticket, by the time you take a day off work to go to court you will have spent more money in lost wages most likely. And pay attention lol

you can try fighting it, and see if it will be reduced. However, I would be surprised if it is reduced.

Yeah you guys are right. I understand it's a very expensive lesson [emoji28]

Was just searching the internet and found out about Parkig Ticket cancellations?

Has anyone had experience with their parking ticket getting cancelled?

Did you read the last sentence on that website? And I quote...

"Please be advised that tickets issued for any No Stopping, No Standing, Fire Route, Fire Hydrant, Disabled Offences (including loading or unloading), Rush Hour Offences and ANY fine where the value is greater than $150.00 cannot be cancelled."

Good luck though

I think I understand. Parking in front of a hydrant is a $275 ticket, OP receives a $100 ticket, perhaps for being too close but not in front of hydrant.
Since the ticket is not (guessing) not for directly blocking a hydrant maybe (doubtful) there is a chance it can be cancelled.

Could be worse.....just pay the ticket and take this as a lesson learned.

Be thankful there wasn't a fire and they broke both windows to run the hose thru your car and you still get a ticket.

Thanks for All your Input, guys! I just went and paid for it. Good thing the people there were nice enough to reduce it by half!

Yep definitely gonna take this as a lesson.

Pretty much what happened was I went to the ticket processing at Nathan Philips Sq (temporary location, btw) and the Lady in the "wicket" booth asked if i wanna Pay the fine or go meet a prosecutor to have it reduced(usually you get a schedule by mail from what ive read on the ticket). I told her i wanna pay the fine (because i don't want to waste more time). But instead she said we have a prosecutor on site and maybe you can ask to have it reduced itll take about 5 mins. So i agreed and went to see the prosecutor (4 Wicket booths to the left) and i was next in line. I just mentioned i wanna request to have my fine reduced and she agreed. only catch is I have to pay it right away. Then I paid on a different Wicket Booth that has card Machine and that was it.

Just a side note, if you're paying Visa/MC/ any Credit Card and they asked you to go to a wicket booth, dont line up. just go straight to whichever booth is open.

That's good you were able to sort it out at a lesser rate.

But as others have said...

@muchokori glad you got it reduced by half. A little tip for next time; when you get out give a little walk around your car to make sure you're not parked in a ticketable zone.

glad you got it reduced. Out of curiosity, where did you get this ticket? Was it on Yonge Street just south of the Shoppers Drug mart by Yonge and finch station?

I got my fire hydrant ticket reduced to $25 payable over 4 payments. Just tell them you can't afford it and they'll bring it down.

Glad you were able to get it reduced! That happened to me, lesson learned as well lol... I say whenever in doubt, it doesn't hurt fighting it. The cop had a good laugh when I asked if I can fight it and said I got nothing to fight, I parked within 3 metres of the hydrant (I wasn't directly in front of it still, but within 3 metres according to him). I gave it a shot and brought my rate down as well. So tl;dr it's worth it taking the time to "discuss" it lol good job!
