1 -> 2 shift longer? (5MT)

It seems like the 1-2 shift always takes longer than the others (e.g. the 2-3 shift just takes the flick of a wrist and is smooth as butter). I\'m not really sure if it\'s to do with the longer throw or something. Anyone know why?

Not sure why but most cars are like that I find. I have driven my brother in laws mini and I feel like I am rowing a boat going into second gear. Its the longest shift I have ever experienced.
