I have a clunking noise when driving over bumps in my 07 Mazda 3 and so far I have replaced both rear shock mounts since they broke and also installed 2 new rear shocks a month ago. I also replaced both rear stabilizer links this weekend since one of them was shot but it didn't fix my noise issue. I looked at the coil springs and they dont seem to be broken. I notice that the trailing arm bushings seems deformed but how can I be sure they need to be replaced, how do you check them for play? Also, how can I check the lateral links for play? There doesn't seem to be any wheel play from side to side or up and down.

Best guess would be those trailing arm bushings you mentioned. They take quite the beating. See if they have moved at all from the socket. Also check the lower control arm. Two bushings on each side of that.

make sure the rear end links are tight I had constant rear clunking even after changing them they kept getting loose and the cheap end links literally break within minutes of driving at least for me they did need good quality endlinks

Have you tried replacing the sway bar bushings?

I had this issue all last season. Tightened and replaced everything then realized it was the sway bar bushings!!

Make absolutely sure about those coil springs. I had one with only about 3" broken off it, down in the bottom cup. It looked fine but clunked when going over bumps especially badly when there were two people in the back. I could only tell it was pooched by wiggling the bottom of the spring that appears in the tiny window in the bottom of the cup. Even then, it could have resting pressure on it and seem intact when it's wasn't.
