What’s Mazda’s policy on loaner cars? Not that I need one, but perhaps should share this information.

When I had my Saturn, one time I got a loaner car, but had to sign a waver with a $10,000 deductible. I couldn’t believe it, but took the car anyway, as I had to get to work. When I got to work, I called my insurance company to ask what’s the deal with this deductible. They said don’t do this, and offered a rental clause, which would cover any loaner cars, so I took it, and since then, have never removed it from my policy.

I bring this up, as a young guy at work, has been waiting a long time for his delivery of his 2005 Acura, and had to fight to get a loaner car, as he was driving his parent’s car. Anyway, he told me the other day that he finally got the loaner car, and I asked him what the deductible was, and my story about the last loaner car that I had. He said he didn’t know, but when back to Acura and asked, and yes indeed, there was a $10,000 deductible. He told Acura to take the car back, as there was nothing in writing about this deductible, and they didn’t tell him. He thanked me for this information, as he didn’t want to to skid off an icy road, and get screwed for $10,000. I suggested the addition to his insurance, but he said he was under his parents insurance, and couldn’t go that way.

So if Mazda has the same kind of policy, I would suggest talking to your insurance company before taking a loaner car.

speaking from what happened today at Avante....they have a contract with the Budget rental agency down the street.

it\'s basically like renting a car from Budget, except that the dealership (in this case, Avante T.O.) pays for it. if you have rental coverage on your insurance, it covers the rental.

it was like this at the nissan dealership when i had to take in my maxima for a long-ass repair...i had the rental for 18 days; it was rented at a local Advantage and charged to the dealership (covered under the Nissan Added Security Protection plan).

in your case, and your co-workers case, i\'m guessing they offered you a loaner car from within the dealership. in that case, the $10,000 deductible is NUTS.

When my car was messed up and in service last week at Ajax Mazda, I asked for a loaner car as I need to pick up my son, and get to work from Oshawa to Pickering everyday. They said the service would only take a day, which turned into 2.5 days....but they just handed over the keys to a 2004 M3 Sedan (on their lot) marked loaner on the tags, and I didn\'t have to sign anything, and they never said anything...

I got a GS sedan as a loaner from Prima while I waited for my car to be delivered. No deductable or anything, dealer just told me to be careful with it.

Nice! When I bought my truck from Morningside Mazda back in the day, it had a problem with the tailgate, I took it in to them a couple of times and finally they needed to keep it for a few days. It turned out that they had no loaners available for me at the time so the body shop manager called my salesman over and said, John, give him your car. He handed me over the keys no questions asked, so I drove around a protege for a few days. The best part of the story is that I taught my buddy to drive stick on that poor protege, there was no way he was learning on my vehicle! :D

if you are look for this endorsement it is called the OPCF 27 it covers rental of any vehicle in Canada & Us (including HI,AK) up to a value of $25k

The way it works is your insurance coverage transfers over to the rental car, you cannot get this coverage if you are carrying only Liability,

your insurer will not add it on for only a week you need to keep it on the policy for the remainder of the term, usual fee is approx $25

Hope this helps,

as for the 10K deductible, I doubt that it exists I\'m guessing more of a scare tactic...

Well I guees i need to back up Kyfe on this one.
No need to buy collision damage waiver insurance at a rental com. If you carry collision and comp on your own veh and it is temporarily out of service, the coverages are transferable.
In case of damage, you would only owe your deductible.
Also, OPCF 27, Liabilty for damage to non-owned vehicles. You can purchase this endorsement for no less than 6 months. well at least thats the policy with State Farm.
There is limitations usually 25-30K of damage.
Check your policy, some brokers/agents add it on automatically.
Also: Gold cards carry damage collision if the rental was paid for by the Gold Card.

but the problem is that sometimes (my mom\'s honda dealership) will put 0.00 as rental fee when they give you one of THEIR own cars (or they will pay for it outright, from a rental co.) and you can\'t use your gold/platinum card to cover that.. or am i wrong?

Kyfe and Frank, I had a van which someone rearend it on Oct, I rented another car paid by insurance, but the rental comp asked me to have a ins wavier, and I said yes cost me about $30/day, so do you mean I actually didn\'t need it cause my own policy would cover it? but in case I really did crash the rental, will my premium go up? If you say I don\'t need the waiver, that\'s mean I wasted my $150:(
