ok.. so here we go. i\\\'ve been too lazy to post this but it\\\'s xmas and not much to do now :p

1. go to CT and pick up a pair of the $15 floormats (premium i think)
2. make 3 cuts as shown below (roughly at 34cm mark/at the vertical grove)

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9585.jpg

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9586.jpg

3. flip the left piece up and over like so

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9587.jpg

4. use a heavy duty stapler (at least 50 sheets) found in your office ;) and staple it together

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9589.jpg

5. gotta protect from leaks right.. and what better to use than duct tape?

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9590.jpg

6. fit is 8/10 not perfect but it will protect your carpet AND it\\\'s pliable enough you can mold the rubber a bit to fit. VOILA :D

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9594.jpg

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9595.jpg

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9596.jpg

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9598.jpg

oh and that stupid clip (on MTs it\\\'s diff than on ATs) looks like this:

http://xs37.xs.to/pics/05286/IMG_9593.jpg

so just use a screwdriver to pry it up a bit and it\\\'ll pop off..

EDIT: passenger side is much easier.. just cut as much from the top as gets in the way of the interior moulding and you\'re done :D

Looks good majic. A question though, are you going to leave your dead pedal area bare? Or maybe you\'re already looking into buying a dead pedal to put on top of the area instead of covering with a floor mat...

thx..

since i have a 5MT, i RARELY have the chance to rest my left foot - i drive in stop and go a lot and i like changing gears ;) so for now i\'m leaving it bare until i can find a nice dead pedal or maybe an entire set of 4...

Nice job with the mats. I didn\'t wanna cut mine because I like the deep lip. Have you found that any water even gets near the edges at the top?

Might consider cutting them...not sure.

thuis far i haven\'t noticed any dampness where i cut b/c the way it sits in there it\'s all SLANTED so that where there\'s no lip, there\'s a gradient away from the carpet. I\'ll double check today and maybe put a black towel around that area.. not sure yet

I\'m sorry, but I can\'t seem to see the images.

I\'ve used these mats in the past and although they do hold water the stupid lip around the edge isn\'t deep enough. Even worse, the lip is angled which makes a nice little speed bump for any accumulated water as soon as you accelerate.

This year, I picked up a set from CanTire that has a layer of foam inserted into the mat to help slow down the rush of water as you accelerate and brake. Plus the lip is almost twice as deep as the ones pictured above, they are more expensive but they\'ve done the job great so far. The fit isn\'t too bad either.

Which style did you get from Canadian Tire? I\'m looking to pick up a set myself...

Hey Majic thanks for the detailed installation instructions. I picked up a set of these mats (actually 2 sets because at first I bought the wrong colour) and was worried when they didn\'t fit. If I can\'t find anything else that fits without modification I\'m going to try your method!

While Majic\'s fix was industrious, it kind of defeats the purpose of the mat. As soon as you have some water built up in the mat, when you step on the brakes all the water will rush forward and pour over the left edge which has been cut. When winter\'s over there will be a nice crusty salt brick under that mat.

My opinion is keep the mat whole, keep the water in the mat, let it dry and shake the salt out whenever you can. :D

thanks ;)

but i must say that:
1) the mat is on a very steep incline
2) water has a few ridges to travell through before spilling over

having said that, the carpet below is slightly damp and i\'m NOT sure (b/c i never look down while braking) if it\'s due to that or just moisture.. so i guess i\'ll probably just buy a towel to collect some of that spill over.. and i\'ll report next year to see if i can gather enough salt to make my fries more tasty :D

I got some spill at the bottom of the mat. Expect your mats to move upward (especially the ones for the back seats if you got passengers). I don\'t have any problem with the gas pedal but rather the dead pedal. And it\'s just hard to keep your feet on the mat when you drive, unless you freeze yourself at one position only. I just bought some clear runners and I think I\'ll put a layer of those in like what RedRaptor did here (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=868&page=1).

That should be a spill. There shouldn\'t be enough moisture to make the carpet damp.

My previous car and the van both have grey carpets... the salt stains are not that visible. The all black interior of the 3 looks good but a b!tch to maintain.

If you don\'t have anything constructive to say please STFU, don\'t come here and start dissing people, if you really can make something better and equal in price, by all means post some pics.

Anyway, I\'m all about budget, this is good, btw, WALMART has alot of car matts too incase you guys wanna check it out, both Markville and the one at Kennedy/Sheppard.
