Modzilla/Netscape?

They are the same?

I thought Modzilla\'s browser WAS firefox.

majic

nope.. it used to be Netscape (built on the mozilla source code)

then Micro$haft abused its monopoly and almost killed Netscape off..

by Netscape/Mozilla I meant - the browser with e-mail, messenger and all other stuff bundled.. Mozilla is updated nightly and after a stable release Netscape puts some flavouring and releases its version. Firefox is a more friendly, standalone (Thunderbird is its mail cousin) and lighter version of the mozilla suite.

read up more on mozilla here (http://www.mozilla.org/)

I wish we had an emoticon showing a smiley shaking a fist at you because I have switched from IE to Firefox because of you! Thank-you! :D I\'ve only used it for a little bit (and I\'m stuck using IE at work), but I love the pop-up blocker, it\'s very intelligent. The themes are nice too and boy is it fast!

I\'m still an IE user but I may have to check out Firefox, my brother raves about it as well.

I\'ve both, but I mainly use IE. I find my firefox somewhat slower than IE especially loading pics.

for some ppl complain about popups, spam, etc, don\'t cheap out for not purchase some internet security software for about $50, I got Norton Personal Firewall last year, it does block out many of the popup and spam stuff, with firewall that no hacker can hack my computer easily.

the whole point is .. ffox is FREE for LIFE.. your NIS/NPF will expire or will just get plain outdated in a matter of a year or 2

Did you try the \'tweak network settings\' extension? try it and u\'ll see which one is much faster...

spam is for e-mail.. firefox .. umm no e-mail there unless it\'s web based.. pop ups and applets and ads on the other hand, adblock will take care of them!

OK I\'ve been using Firefox for a week or so now. In terms of speed I find that Firefox and IE are about the same, so maybe i\'m not using Firefox to its fullest potential? What\'s that \"tweak network settings\" that you talk about majic? Anyways my favourite aspect of Firefox is its tabbed browsing, it makes internet surfing much easier, by loading up multiple pages at once (like news articles) and being able to read all of them right away. But that\'s basically all I use Firefox for, the tabbed browsing. It feels like I\'m not using it to its fullest potential, so are there any nice shortcuts that Firefox have that IE doesn\'t?

it\'s the extension found here (http://www.bitstorm.org/extensions/) and it pretty much allows for more concurrent threads (so that more requests are sent simultaneously speeding up your browsing experience) This comes in handy ESPECIALLY when viewing multiple tabs.. here\'s a screenshot

The best part about that is you can bookmark a bunch of tabs (say sites you visit daily e.g. news, weather, tm3 etc) and they will all load for you while you read the first one. close that tab and move on to the next...

just look through all the extensions (https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/showlist.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Wi ndows&category=All) and maybe you\'ll find others that make your life much easier (eg. open mailto: links in your favourite [gmail] web e-mail as if you \'compose a new message\')

Thanks majic for your info. I think the \'tweak network settings\' extension helped a little bit. Those extensions are a good idea, although I just need the most basic features on a web browser to make me happy, as I only visit a few sites daily.

IE has the same \"Tweak Network Settings\" functionality. Go to Speedguide.net and download TCP optimizer and it has the same options.
