Hello all, I am new to this forum and do not live in Toronto however I really need some help.

I have been having this issue for some time now. I drive a 2012 Mazda 3 AT. The gear shift works for all gears except reverse. Sometimes I have to pull back on the gear shift a tad to make the reverse indicator light on my dash turn on so that I am able to reverse. I have had multiple mechanics look at it and none of them know the issue. I had my sensor replaced in March and just recently had a bushing replaced at the beginning of the month. The only dash light that is on is my engine light but the code comes back as P0442 which is a small emissions leak.

Previously I have had an issue with my car not starting in park but I have had that issue fixed and am wondering if this could be a similar issue or if anyone has experienced this issue before. Any help would be appreciated.

Reverse switch is located in the transmission. So light not coming on = transmission not in reverse. Issue is probably the linkage isn't correctly adjusted. What was done to fix the "not starting in park" issue?

I replaced the neutral safety switch

Still would suspect linkage adjustment. Bushing replacement likely involved removing part of the linkage.

Check the linkage pivot at the transmission. Corrosion was a known issue on the First Gen AT, maybe it could be there too.
