is there anything i can do against my calipers rusting, i heard of rotors rusting a little when sitting around, but im curious as to why my front calipers are rusting. im pretty pissed about this. i know its not a hard fix, but calipers shouldnt rust after 10 months. i guess im going to have to clean it and paints them. anyone else have this problem.

Brake calipers are very much like the Canadian Submarines – they rust when wet.:)

Last summer, I saw the pics from the link below (page 3 of gallery). I immediately contacted the guy (his username is \'slalom\' on mz3forums), and went to London in September to get him to paint my calipers for rust protection purposes. He painted my car at his friend\'s place and he showed me his friend\'s WRX whose calipers had gone through a winter. The WRX calipers looked great, and now that we\'re into winter, my calipers are holding up amazingly.

As can be seen from one of the pics, he uses Tremclad rust paint. He even used that actual can of paint on my car, he\'s done some 5 cars and only halfway through that can of paint! So you can contact him (he\'s a great guy), or DIY.

Damn, they turned out pretty nicely. I\'m not into the flashy colours so I think I\'ll give this a go in the spring.

how much did he charge you to paint the calipers? How long did it take him?

I went to Part Source on Dundas, Miss, it had more colors choice (red, silver, black and others which I didn\'t pay attention to) than CanTire.

I paid him $100cdn and drove out to London. I don\'t know what\'s a market price for this type of stuff, but he did it over around 3.5 hours and he\'s VERY meticulous (the paintbrushes he uses are very fine to ensure great control and detailed painting). I was very happy with it, especially given his meticulousness - both the inside and outside of the calipers were done, there was no overpainting anywhere (e.g. brake pads, brake wires, etc...), and the paint appears very thin (unlike some other painted calipers I\'ve seen)

He and his friend are total car guys (and managers at a company in the car industry), so I felt the price was appropriate. I am very happy with it and I told him I\'d let others know if I was happy.

No they don\'t - They catch fire, cause smoke, and put people in bodybags.

I painted my calipers red with rust paint when my car was about 2 months old. From what I can tell, the paint has done well. There isn\'t rust anywhere... at least from what I can see.

Why don\'t you guys just buy the Duplicolor Caliper Paint Kit at Canadian Tire...It\'s about 20 bucks and some of your time...
