It IS technically true... it will sound different. Seriously though, If you want performance, take a sawzall and cut you body panels off. And take out your interior, and smash the windows.... the weight reduction will make you a serious contender in the rice olympics :sarc

holes in muffler will lose some low end torque, your car sounds louder but slower.

if u can somehow hook up some baffles inside the piping and run some switches to it from inside the car...u can have it custom to open and close to have the sound whenever u want to....

if u wanna go the cheap route just go to an exhaust shop and get them to cut out your resonator (suitcase muffler/silencer...whatever they wanna call it) and weld in a piece of replacement pipe! this would not change your chances with emmisions whatsoever since the resonator is like a little muffler just to make the car exhaust a little quieter, thats it.
That should do it and will only cost at the max $100 so start of with a good reputalble shop and you should be good to go!
btw this mod is completely reversable!

OK... i don\'t understand why ANYONE would want to put holes ANYWHERE (unless it\'s for a hood scoop or something) in their car. Especially somewhere near the bottom of the car like the muffler.

There\'s the Rust factor. You\'re just asking for it. Bare metal will be exposed accelerating the rusting of the exhaust/muffler.

Secondly, are you really comfortable with drilling holes in your car? Frankly I don\'t want any holes in my car unless they are SUPPOSED to be there.

If you want a nice sound from your car, get a CAI, Headers and a full exhaust kit. Drilling holes ANYWHERE is a no no.
