This July past I move into a new subdivision. All is good except the damn mud, sand and dust laden streets and I can\'t keep my car clean for more than a day. I haven\'t had good rest due to the fact that house are being built right behind me and beside me. Bulldozers and other heavy equipment make the house vibrate and I empathized with residents of Dessert Storm I & II in Iraq.

Anyways, I go to my garage to pull up the door to park my car in there and to my horror I see a mouse zip off to the back and disappear amongst some boxes of books, papers and summer tires. I get that nasty shiver up my spine of digust, fear and worry. Those fawkers can wreak havoc on any home owner from the damage they can cause, plus they are unsanitary.

So I go to the Dollar Store as I am a frequent member and I pick up a 1/2 dozen old school mouse traps muttering to myself that.\" I declare war.\"http://www.victorpest.com/store/Assets/product_images/m149.jpg

So it was yesterday at 4:pm that I set-up some of these traps being very careful as they can really do damage if your finger gets caught. I decide to put them at all 4 corners of the garage and bait them with some old moldy bread from the fridge. 10:pm I pull open the garage to drive out to nightshift work and to my surpise and horror I see one. The trap is turned over in the corner but all I can see and stomach at a glance is a 3inch greyish fur body and it\'s tail ever so feintly moving. I immediately felt feint in my knees and sick to my stomach full well knowing I would have to dispose of it.

So this morning I take a long shovel and turn it over for a quick glance. It seems as if the lil\' mouse got pinched in half perfectly. I didn\'t look good enough to see guts or blood as I was so digusted but the war must continue. I hope it was a quick death. I\'ve heard of glue traps, rat trap boxes, powders, pellets and a combonation of those mentioned. People say my method ensures quick death instead of starvation and fear.http://www.victorpest.com/deer_mice.jpg

Anyways, just doing some lil\' research and stuff I thought I would share this story as it may help others. Anyone have any experience with critter of this nature and what traps, bait and methods did you use?

Same ol\' traps as you picked up from the dollar store. That or raise an \"outdoor\" cat... not kidding! We owned a cat at one time who loved being outdoors. We\'d open the door inside the home and she\'ll just come in for food or water and then head straight back out. She\'d catch so many mice in and around the house!

One incident many many years ago when the house was still quite new, I walked into my second floor bathroom to get a surprise of a tiny furry little baby mouse (about the size of my thumb) sitting IN one of my sinks!!! It had fallen from the vent above.

Bastard!!! That was the sink I used to wash my face!!!

I won\'t mention the rest of that evening in detail... basically mouse went splat and that, Mr. Jingles, was that.

I have been fightin\' the battle for years. I have only just begun to break even with them critters.

Livin\' in the \'burbies don\'t help.

In any event, I\'ve had the most success with another Victor product: Victor Quick Kill (http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/quickill.htm)

Good luck, my brother. You\'ll need it.

I think I\'ll stick with the Victor snagging spring loading traps. People have told me that poison and pellets can make these buggers die at a later time wherever they go. That means they can die and let their carcasses stink and rot in your insulation, drywall cieling, vents and attics. I\'ll just have to stomach it though.

It was sort of neat to discover the best baits were, Peanut Butter, Cheese, Oats, Chocolate, Water for LIve Catch, Bacon, Fruit, Vegetables, Cereals, Meats, Acorns and Nestling materials for Mouse And Rats.

Owning a cottage, I\'ve dealt with rodents on a yearly basis. Most of the time we just use poison as it gets the job done the quickest.

We had a load of wood brought to the house a few years ago and there must have been a family of mice living in one of the logs because next thing you know whe had a bunch of them running around in our ceilings. We got rid of them the old school way, spring loaded traps.

A couple of years ago, we ended up with one mouse which hung around the kitchen, I never saw it, only the evidence it left behind. I didn\'t have the heart to kill it so I bought a couple of live release traps and set one up. It took a day and I had the little sucker trapped. I took him outside and let him go. He knew better than to make his way back inside.....

And I thought with a name like Dr. Butcher you would be more blood thirsty? The live catch and release traps I\'m assuming are a bit more expensive? It seems a whole lot cleaner though. Well with all the 8 traps set in my garage and house, it has me patrolling them like Iraqi Republican Guards. I purposely let the 1st dead mouse stay sprawled and pinned in his trap for 24hrs as a deturrent for his family and friends.

There hasn\'t been anymore so far in day 3 of this battle, but I will keep the traps in-place. If the weather is fairly nice a good garage cleaning is going down.

I haven\'t had much success with these suckers. Bought 4 of them. Caught one once, but that\'s it.

Do those \'Catch & Release\' need to be baited?

No, the mice are attracted to the smell of plastic, their favourite food.

Yes, you remove the cap at the end of the tunnel and put your snackie (peanut butter) there.
