Guys,
I like these small Gas RC cars that do like 40-60MPH. :D. BUT, I dont know much about them. I always thought they cost around the $500 mark and obviously go up. Looking on eBay, I am seeing Nitro RC cars doing 50+MPH and going for $200.
Does anyone know much about these? Any tips? Any good sites for newbs to learn the basics quick?
Thanks in advance
~JOHN

Visit any hobby shop in town or even Pac Mall they have a good selection and can give you more info.

i think RJ3 can get you some info (as well as Hypotherml) since they were racing their cars at the last meet (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=1639&page=3#22802) ;)

Buy this baby (http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48851).
Always wanted one myself, but wouldn\'t know where to run it (a parking lot? join an RC club?).

I have a couple of older battery powered RC cars. And they were a blast and I had a ton of fun with them. Back in the day.... It\'s a neat hobby and spent a lot of time playing around with them in my teens. I have a Marui Hunter and a Marui Shogun.

If you wanna work your way up like methodyst, hypothrml and I are, buy an xmod in radioshack. They cost about 69.99 plus tax. Then you can go to upgrades. One thing that gas powered cars dont have, is body customization, AWD setup and the ability to boost the power with a quick mod. You can also strip your car down to the chassis and upgrade with alloy parts
If you still are looking for gas powered r/c\'s in the westend, they have one in streetsville. If you wanna join a race team then theres a shop called hobbeytoys in the mavis area, I think its too hardcore for my liking, no offence to guys who are in a r/c team

Thanks for the tips guys, I know a lotta hobby places, but was looking to run a few models on eBay by someone with experience.
RJ - With the gas models you can change the bodies, hop up the engine (relatively cheap), and a lot are 4WD. Also, they run at 40-60MPH!:D

Strap on a wireless video camera and run the RC car along side your 3 as you drive. :)

get a monster truck they are a blast . look at the savage ss or the savage ready to run kits . good luck and just one last note . Be ready for lots of trips to the hobbies shop for broken parts . a very important thing to remember is to follow the engine break in steps , this will make or break your engine . a temp gun is a must for and nitro powered r.c , so you can tune the engine to its sweet spot . hope this helps

you can buy awd nitro powered r.c\'s ! you can also mod the hell outta them . by switching out exhaust , carb, head, different % of nitro content , gears, the list goes on and on .i would say go with a nitro car/truck , nothing sounds better then alittle car reving at 50,000 rpm:D . plus who like waiting for batt packs to charge . here is a site that may help you out www.beatyourtruck.com
best of luck with your new hobby .

There are actually two stores in that area. One is Advance Hobbies (http://www.advancehobbies.com/) and the other I forget but it is in the strip mall by the GO station.
I know Advance Hobbies even has a DYNO for the R/C cars!
In regards to where to run the cars, I have seen a R/C club setup a track and workshop in the parking lot of the Jack Astors at Scarborough Town Centre for a day.

Either way its big even for electric =P
cheepest is about 150, then you have to buy your battery 60 and up, your remote over 100, your paint 20, motor if you dont want to use the stock 17 turn 50 minimum, and your speed controllet 150 and up. that is already over 500 no tax included. you can get deduct the motor and get a cheep speed controler but it wont last to long before you want to upgrade and even then it will still be a bit over 400 =P.
There expensive and will break.. its a black whole in your wallet for a hobbie =)
