View Full Version : this or that?
Got some price quotes the other day...
225/40/18
Toyo Proxes4 - $235/tire
Toyo T1-R - $320/tire (so expensive!)
Kumho Ecsta ASX - $199/tire (can get for US$99 from Tirerack though)
which one should I choose? leaning towards the Proxes4
still got a month or so...

If you\'re in that range, why not also consider:
Pilot Sports
Kumho MX
Falken Azenis?
The Falkens are probably one of the stickiest street tires, but soft and you\'ll run thru them quite quickly. Pilot Sports are wonderful, but pricey. Heard alot of good things about the MXs.
I heard good things about the Falkens too. I think the Pilot Sports are very expensive and mroe suited to European cars.
I drive a lot so I would prefer seomthing with better treadwear though. The Proxes4 seems to strike a good balance. The Kumho ASX is the cheapest and has best treadwear, though I\'m not sure how well it handles in the dry compared to the Proxes4.
I would prefer all seasons over summer-only tires for treadwear concerns, and also I would like to put on my summers early and take them off late, so a little snow traction wouldn\'t hurt, just in case we get hit by a freak snow storm.

These were standard issue on the Sport Package Miatas a few years back. Stiff sidewall for great transitional response and excellent dry grip. I loved that tire. Lasted four summers, but I probably don\'t put as much mileage on them as you would. But ya, pretty pricey.

Run some searches on Miataforum.com (http://forum.miata.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=3). Some of those guys are tire fanatics. Lots of great info about people\'s experiences with tires.
Sorry, forgot to mention: Yokohama AVS ES100\'s sound like a great buy too.
