can cops search you or your car without a warrent?

I\'m no lawyer, but I believe they can if they have probable cause....what is probable cause?? Who knows...

Probable Cause...eh? One of those overriding God like powers which can be used for good and evil. An officer can always make up an excuse. My fear is the Mark Fuhrman type of Detectives planting $#it on me.

my friend and I got scared of that lastnite. He was driving me home and a cop was following us. The cop was in an undercover car. Its about 2:30am tuesday morning. They pull us over tell us to get out of the car. Search us everywhere!!! ask all these questions like how do we know eachother where have we been etc etc

then my friend said he didnt feel comfortable when the cop was searchin him and how he thought they planted something on him cuz his shirt felt like it had something after she searched him but it was his head playin tricks on him.

then he asked why we got pulled over and searched and why they also searched the car and they said someones called in saying something about a gun in a car

I think its all BS but ahh well. COPS are nuts in brampton this is my 2nd time gettin stopped in a week with my friends.

The thing i hate the most about these cops is they make things look much bigger then they are. For just me and my friend 7 COP CARS PULLED UP!:sarc

no matter what the ppl say...cops have a lot of power and say, even if it they would search the car without probable cause ...i would let em, i mean if u have nothin to hide then what the hell, its always their word against yours thats for sure. always be polite and never have the stupid attitude of \"*** da police\" otherwise they will **** you.

I think it had to do with the fact that they were looking for a gun....That is a big thing to them...

when you know you\'re innocent juts comply.. it makes your heart jump into your throat but man.. if u have nothing to hide AND you oppose them.. that could get ugly..

also.. someone coulda called \"hey this guy just tried/robbed me, he had a gun to my head.. he had a dark skin and he took off in a blue car, he was with a friend\" generic and vague but cops see that you fit the description and pull u over.. for them safety is key so they take all precautions and search u if needed.

Cops can abuse powers, and do. In this case, I think it was legit. I mean if it was a powertrip there would not have been 7 cop cars.

yeha i know they can.. one time i drove a bit faster than maybe i should have and this guy thought i was gonna run over some cyclists.. anyway.. few min later a cop shows up at the pool i worked at and starts asking who\'s the owner of the silver grand am

I don\'t think police can search your car w/o warrent, unless cop is chasing you for a long time ( like Cops) and when he/she has the siren on.

You and your friend can request he could search the car after you all go to police station. but you should ask any lawyer or phone to CP24 and ask.

I think they probably can... what if they\'re looking for a suspect in a car who just robbed a bank, with guns and stuff? Get a warrent first?

I got pulled over by an OPP when I was on a trip. I had 3 friends in the car and the cop asked me to step out of the vehicle, needed to talk to me behind the car. He asked me their names, ethnicity, if I got any firearms in the car... Then searched the trunk. We got luggages and stuff and he looked over them. I was just standing there helping him since I had nothing to hide. But funny thing is that he didn\'t take a look INSIDE the car such as the glovebox or under the seats. What if we got a gun in there?

I asked him afterwards why he pulled us over, he told me they were looking for a break-in suspect in the area.... alright fine.

Happened to my ex-brother-inlaw a number of years ago...A cop pulled him over and questioned him and searched his car...He then let him know they had a call about a white guy in a Jeep type vehicle that had done something...Can\'t remember what...But it can happen to anyone...

My theory is if you keep your nose clean odds are you won\'t get in trouble with the cops...
