Hello Everyone
LOCKDOWN Enterprises Inc. is pleased to offer all browsers of TM3 an amazing option to upgrade their factory speakers. The Mazda3 is equipped with the 5X7 size speaker, which is a difficult size to match with a decent aftermarket speaker. Most Mazda3 owners either choose to leave the factory speakers in, or decide to convert to the 6.5†size using a custom bracket. Both of these options are fine, but we now have an amazing NEW option from Planet Audio for everyone to take a look at!
Planet Audio is an amazing car audio manufacturer, they’ve been in the business for over 5 years now and offer some really cool products. One of these cool products is the Vortex line of speakers: Specifically the:
V5720 5X7 Plate speaker with external crossover included.
This is a 5X7 sized speaker with the benefits of a component kit, but the ease of installation of a standard 5X7 speaker!! Its an easy way to add a huge upgraded sound to your Mazda3 or Mazda6!! As an introductory offer, we are pricing a pair of these speakers at:
$149.99 INSTALLED!! plus applicable taxes.

Does anyone know where I can find some reviews on these speakers? I am interested in making some upgrades to my stock sound system(I have a GT/GFX), and better speakers would be a good start. Questions is how much difference will I notice for the money?
I don\'t really need louder, but am looking for clarity...

Same...
I was at Lockdown... Jeff demonstrated the Eclipse speakers and they were quite amazing... I\'ve yet to listen to the Planet Audio stuff though.
There is one question I have: I\'ve been told that the headunit is the source of the sound and hence u must upgrade headunit... is that true?

Banana - This is correct to a point.
Your deck is the source of the signal, and without a clean signal you get crappy sound. Now the stock deck does an OK job of sending out the signal, but the speakers dont have much range, or offer a good sound.
So, upgrading the speakers will provide a nice, very noticable difference. However, down the road if you decide to change the deck, you will notice a difference again for the better.
Personally I think speakers are where your should start. Why have a cleaner source, without anything to play it properly? :)

Thanks for the info midnight! Would amp add to the system? I\'m planning to go with the Eclipse amp/speaker/sub setup from Lockdown, but the whole headunit thing is bothering me...

An amp will add for sure. It amplifies the clean signal to the speakers.
You cant go wrong with Eclipse.:D

where did you mount the sub?

The amp I have mounted to the back of the rear seat on the drivers side. The sub is a drop in enclosure and it\'s pushed to the passenger side of the trunk up against the back seat. Once the weather clears, I\'ll take a pic. I just haven\'t gotten around to it yet. Lockdown did a very nice clean install. Everyone who has seen it so far has commented on how tidy it looks.

lol Dr Butcher I heard about ur car from Lockdown... :p sweet setup! How much was it in total?
Dr Butcher

When all was said and done I was about $1600 lighter, I should have waited on the sub. I paid $300 for it and since then I have seen the dual 12\" for $300 brand new and right now there is one on ebay going for $20.... It\'s more bass than I need. I even have the bass control turned almost all the way down. :)

I may look for a new head unit over the next year or so, but for now I am satisfied.

Hello Everyone
For speaker reviews, you may want to try and search through the Car Audio and Electronics magazine website. You can find this site at:www.caraudioandelectronicsweb.com. They should have some reviews posted on their site.
In regards to head-units, your head-unit in the OEM set-up is the source for amplifier power ( as the amp is built into the head-unit ) and while it does not produce very high wattage, the signal is relatively clear. So on that note, if you are just looking for some additional sound quality characteristics such as higher frequency response, better bass response, then replacing the speakers first is the way to go. It is the most economical and easiest way to achieve better sound in your Mazda3. However, changing the factory radio to an aftermarket piece will almost always give you better features and better sound as well. Adding amplifiers is also recommended very highly, however they are not an absolute necessity for good overall sound.

Lockdown P5: Sounds interesting, but the web link isn\'t working.
Does anyone know any good websites for car audio / GPS reviews?
