What\'s with people stopping a car lenght behind the white line and other vehicles at an intersection?? I find this friggin annoying and dangerours. I\'m assuming there is a valid reason for this, but it is tough for the poor sucker behind you who is timing his stop by the flow of traffic and overall distance between the intersection and themselves. Last week I got stuck behind a \"Young Drivers\" vehicle and I almost slammed into his back end at the first intersection because he braked so hard when it wasn\'t necessary. Of course since I\'m not fixated on the vehicle directly in front of me (I get the whole picture when I drive) I had to react faster then I expected...

ARGH!! Sorry, but it really annoys me...

I think the idea is that if they get hit from behind , they won\'t smash into the car in front of them.

Oh and just wondering but, shouldn\'t you judge your stopping distance based on the car in front of you? ......

Not if you are looking past the car infront of you, like you should...The light turns red, you have \'X\' distance to the line so you judge the stopping distance. It\'s not usually a big problem unless they are close to the line and hit the brakes extra hard. I myself look in front and look behind, if making a quick stop, and try and adust based on both ends. No sense slamming the brakes and stopping short if it causes the guy behind you to hit you....It\'s still a crash and a pain in the ass...Kind of the same as people who are looking for an intersection and slow down at a green light to read the street signs. Keep driving, read the sign, miss the intersection and turn around. Once again this is what I do because I know it\'s a friggin pain for the guy behind me. It just seems a lot of people drive around without thinking about how their driving habits affect other drivers...

Let\'s just say I had a bit of a pain the butt drive in this morning. I got stuck behind a lady pulling the stop short thing and then she hit the brakes going around a corner when she was going 5km/h. I got annoyed and of course after that she rocketed up to 90km/hr in a 60 zone...Explain to me how that makes sense. Worry about stopping distance from the line, baby around a corner and then speed down a road...Total inconstitent driving...

this is what the driving schools teach you, stop about a car length before the intersection so if someone rams you from behind you have more time to react and hopefully won\'t get hit by oncoming/crossing traffic. similairly, they tell you to keep your wheels straight when you make a left hand turn until you\'re ready to commit .. for the same reason. so you don\'t get hit by oncoming traffic.

but yah.. i hear your frustrations.. other annoyances include (now that i\'m listing these i feel like there\'s a thread on something like that here)
1) driving in the left lane - it\'s for PASSING ONLY
1a) not getting out of the lane after highbeaming :p - at least signal so there\'s no need to tailgate and get pissed off
1b) tailgating in order to induce passing moving over - sometimes it seems to be the only way but others can just slam the brakes and oy.. your fault
2) TRUCKS in the left lane - i thought it was illegal for them to be in any lane but right and middle to pass?
3) ppl speeding up when you want to pass them
4) ppl NOT truning right on red when the other side has an advanced green and they are both turing into a 2 lane road.
5) merging on the highway at < 80kph
6) ppl who come up behind me in the middle lane and tailgate even though i haven\'t changed my speed (cruise @ 110kph usually) i let them deal.. i ain\'t slowing down/speeding up for them
7) ppl driving with hazzards on on the freeway - wtf? i understand HEAVY rain, SNOW storm (if you REALLY need to drive in those contditions) but during a light rain or when little fluff comes down.. if your car is broken call a towtruck and wait..
8) ppl driving with no lights on.. or just parking lights or minimal lighting
9) those who spray their windshields (on a nice day or when yours is clean) and you\'re right behind them.. ugh.. this is a decent deterrent for tailgaters ;) as is engine braking or hand braking (not too good for the car and potentially dangerous but it\'ll always be their fault :p )

ooooooh and the biggest pet peeve - GAWKERS! :sarc they cause more congestion than the accident itself.. ugh.. and are more likely to cause another one..

these guidelines should be used on the highways ;)

right lane: 80-100kph
middle 100-120kph
left: passing and insane speeds :)

For those idiots, I\'ll try to box them in behind me and the car (hopefully there is one) beside me. What can the tailgater do? Heheheh... highbeam, honk, do whatever they want cuz them being an arse will only make it more fun for me. :D

4) ppl NOT truning right on red when the other side has an advanced green and they are both turing into a 2 lane road.

if people are turning left it would be unwise (imo) to make a right hand turn even if it is two lanes. surely you\'ve seen people \'overthrow\' a turn.. that could get ugly quickly.

i know what you mean.. but sometimes they just sit there BECAUSE IT\'S RED.. and the traffic hasn\'t started moving.. i guess the left turners do have the right of way but they are supposed to turn into the left lane (no?) and i THINK it would be their fault..

Not gonna risk it if people are turning. But I know what you mean about people sitting there. I\'ve seen this in oakville all the time, other side has advanced green (nobody is there to turn!) and they just sit there till they get a green light.

Someone almost plowed into me one time, his advanced green was over, and he ran the light, went right into my lane, as he wanted to pull into the gas station.

I find many gas stations and plaza entrances right on the corner of intersection, so you need to drive straight to right lane when you make a left turn, very dangerous and stupid design.

I work in Miss near PIA, there are so many trucks drive on the left lane but they are not making left turn to the nearest intersection, so ppl have to pass on the right.

Yeah I don\'t risk that either. I always b!tch at people turning right when I\'m turning left at an advanced green. It\'s just dangerous to have 2 cars turning into the same direction at the same time like that. If i\'m on a Northbound street, turning right, and my street has advanced left-turn signal, I\'ll just wait until all the cars from the southbound direction have turned.

Unless you wanna say the advanced left-turn signal is for cross street. Now that would piss me off. But once I was turning right when the cross street has advanced signal, and that stupid b!tch in a BMW made a freaking U-turn in front of me.... I horned the hell out of her, she freaked and jumped over the curb.
