View Full Version : Coolant very low?!
It came to my attention today that my coolant was very low (thanks lukel90 for pointing it out to me! I probably wouldn\'t have realized myself) - well below the minimum level. I\'m going on a somewhat long drive tommorow - should I just top it up myself or does the 3 use a specific brand of coolant and is it safe to mix the stock coolant with whatever coolant I buy? Would I have a leak?

The manual does not specify any particular brand. Just make sure it is \"ethyleneglycol-based\" (Page 8-16).
I\'ve been noticing coolant on the drive way. It only came to my attention during the previous week\'s snow fall. When I was leaving and got the car stuck on the street that morning I noticed a bright green spot on the snow (odd location, closer towards the firewall). Had the car checked out, they said they \"pressure tested\" the system and didn\'t find anything wrong. Both myself and my dad thought the coolant level was low (it indicated below min) but yet they still didn\'t add anything. It wasn\'t until my dad asked why not (he can be a pain in the ass :) ) so they added some clear fluid, never seen such, and that was it. I\'ll be checking the level out more frequently, I hope I don\'t have a leak. I\'d add some or take it to the dealer. Better safe than sorry.
^ would that clear fluid be water? :hoho
I think I\'ll drop by the Avante tommorow morning and have them top it up. I don\'t notice anything leaks on the ground btw. My 32k service is due soon so I\'ll get them to check it then.
