I am strapped for cash right now but I still want some new rims. I figured I would go with 17\" rims in hyper black or gunmetal and use my stock tires until I save up some more money for better tires. I am also thinking about powder coating my stock rims in gunmetal (cheapest choice). What do you guys think of these wheels.

Wheel #1: 17\" nakayama vador 5.

Wheel #2: 17\" nakayama RSX 5.

Wheel #3: 17\" BSA 307.

What other rims do you think would look good? With 17\" rims I want to stay away from deep dish rims with lips because the rims will look smaller.

Because of the Shape of the car, I\'ve been having a hard time finding rims that i actually like. If i do getr some rims (18\'s) it\'s going to be a similar design compared to the stock 17\'s. I love the look of the 17\'s because it suits the car well... Just o give you an idea of what I mean, here is a link (http://www.tirerack.com/servlet/CallJsp?target=wheelSearchCloseUp&wheelIndex=34&si zeIndex=1&showRear=no&setIndex=6&filterSize=18&fil terFinish=&filterSpecial=Pricing)

Tirerack (www.tirerack.com) has a great site where you can choose your car and select different rims ranging in any size to see how they look. It would help you decide... If you\'re strictly going with the 3 you\'ve posted i would go for number 2

18\" and similar style as stock 17\" = RX-8\'s 18\", unless you want something less than 22lb ;)

If those are our only choices, I would have to say that #1 is the one I would personally choose. I would suggest going to 18\'s though, seems like a bit of a waste of money to not plus size the rims/tires.

I would love to go with 18\" rims but I don\'t have the money. I have to use the stock rubber, so I am stuck with 17\'s. Should I just get my stock rims powder coated gunmetal and then save my money for 18\'s next year.

i say you keep your stock rims and upgrade the tires first, or do both rims and tires all at once. I don\'t seea point of putting a nicer set on with stock crapy-years..

and if you go to 18s your tires will cost much more!

also if you are going to hold off tll next year, why powdercoat now when they\'ll just sit in the garage later? dunno, just wondering..

I think I found the rims I want. They are falken torque 5 18\" gunmetal. The only problem is they are 24 lbs per wheel.

I just have to find a way of affording these.

I think I have changed my mind about these rims already. Good thing I haven\'t bought them yet. I just weighed my winter rims (off p5) and winter tires and they are 37 lbs and my stock 17\'s are 43 lbs. I noticed little difference in acceleration but what is going to happen next year if I have the falken rims? The falken 18\'s with tires are going to be about 46 lbs. After next winter when I go from 16\" rims weighing 37 lbs to 18\" rims weighing 46 lbs, I am not going to be able to stand the performance loss. I really don\'t know what to do now.

As posted above, buy some good tires for your stock rims. If you find yourself in a better financial position next year buy some wheels. You will find much better performance from a decent set of summer tires than from the lightest (expensive) wheel you are considering and you won\'t waste the money on buying another set of wheels when you become tired of them in the future. It sounds like you are on the fence, wait there a while and the right answer will come to you. Making a rash decision may mean making the wrong decision.

Will you be lowered in the near future?
I\'m assuming you are staying with 17\'s. I hate the unintended 4X4 look when a car with sporty pretensions sizes up.
