I saw that bluntman posted about waterguards in http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=38

I was wondering if anyone has found a waterproofing solution that ships to Canada for 6 1/2\" Speakers???

Thanks!

Since prying doesn\'t seem to be the method of choice when changing speaker size, I bought these \"Bass Boomer\" \"5¼ to 6\" Round Speaker Protectors\" from CT

Product # 35-1555-2

CT Web site link (http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444188 9603&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303517494&FOLDE R%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303517529&FOLDER%3C%3Ebro wsePath=1408474396669466&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=140 8474396669466&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474396670 271&bmUID=1111988757336)

They are basically just a plastic cup that you put overtop of the speaker.

I\'ll post after my install about how it all worked out

You can also apply some duct tape around the basket, just make sure there aren\'t any holes (not in the tape but in your application).

Hey elm,... Just so you know I have used that product in my old car. It will protect the speaker, but it will diminish the sound quality of the speaker. See the protector will involuntarily act as a \"box\", but because midrange speakers are not designed to work in such small air space, they will not sound as good.

I can\'t explain the EXACT reasoning behind it (not a engineer) but I basically installed it, then removed it... right away

just my personal experience with it. It may also depend on the speaker.

My installer is saying he is going to custom fabricate some plates to put overtop of the speaker, or just cut the stock ones to fit...Having the install done Saturday so we will so what happens.

I dont want diminished SQ at all, paid for a full JL set today, dishin out about 2grand in the end (rather then the 1000-1400 I was planning on spending)..im poor now.

Ex-Rolla - What are you using now to prevent your speakers from getting soaked?

Thanks,

elm - I haven\'t swapped out the speakers yet, I have my old components still sitting in my basement. Being a new car, (month old) I\'m not yet confident enough to start taking apart the door panels. I was refering to my old car. The way the speakers were positioned in the doors, water was not getting to them so i didn\'t need them.

Old installer trick... Duct tape. Wrap some over the top of the basket, issue solved. Does it look as nice? NO. Is it easy? YES. Does it make any differencein sound? NO. :p

Tape is not the answer, I would\'nt be taking my car to any installer who did that!! Where else would they cut corners? What happens when the tape falls off?
Just get the plates from CT and cut the bottom half off with an exacto knife. That will protect the speakers and not deminish the sound.

Mi 3cnts worth:)

The tape wont fall off. And for guys on a budget it works fine. The shops can install shields, but you pay for them. What is wrong with the tape? Duct tape on a metal basket is fine. Name on reason it wouldnt be good. Between this and the post about the RF amp being better than the JL, I am starting to wonder.

One reason is; the tape \"WILL\" eventually fall off because of the environment your placing them in, temperature changes etc; do you want to take that chance? If it falls off your speakers are unprotected and you would\'nt have a clue that they did, and there goes your investment. On a budget? I\'ve seen those covers at CT for $10.00 ea. if that will break your bugdet maybe you should start walking. And as for the Amp post you mentioned; if you bothered to read further you would have noticed it was a joke to entice PSIVIC.:)
