View Full Version : Idling...smooth?
How smooth is your car during idle? I\'ve been noticing that mine (2.3l, 5MT) doesn\'t idle too smoothly - occasionally it vibrates and feels like it\'s about to stall (though it\'s never stalled during idle). Is this normal or should I get it checked out?
btw I don\'t drive hard and I never redline my car, also, my engine, exhaust and drivetrain is 100% stock

I\'m pretty sure I feel that vibration you\'re talking about from time to time, during idle. I think it\'s normal for our car, altho it really shouldn\'t be as far as I\'m concerned. wtom and I were talking about this last fall, it occurs around 700 rpm or somewhere around there. Anyone else notice it?

check your spark plugs...last i remember you posted your car had close to 40,000kms.
you never redline your car so my guess is that your plugs are fouled.
i have 42,000kms and my car sees redline several times a day (99% of my daily driving are on roads with speed limits >80km/h) and it isn\'t exhibiting any type of vibration.
mine is also a 2.3 5MT bone stock.

Mine vibrates to but not as much as before. I have been using Mobil 0W-20 for the last 10KMS. Not sure if that has made a difference.

I just hit 32000km.
Is there any reason for the spark plugs to fail prematurely?

hmm,
my car has a noticable shake when at idle. like really noticable lol. oh well the thing usually sits at like 500rpm or 750. oh well, btw that thing were the car shakes when idle at 2000 is really crazy haha. so obviously there =p
Checked mine out today when I went out for lunch; approx 750RPM in N and there\'s a noticeable vibration. I\'ve read about the balance shaft delete possibly correcting the vibrations, but at what cost (monetary as well as car reliability/stability during use)?
Isn\'t the balance shaft supposed to reduce vibrations though? I don\'t see how removing it with the BSD kit will do any good in terms of smoothness.

I have noticed this on cold weather only, not on warm or hot days....
