well,
today at like 1pm going northbound on kennedy i was rear ended at a stop light by a car. anyways i got all of his information rihgt now, and we decided to deal wiht this privately. anyways he says he has already reported it to the collision center.

i waited for the police, but the police said i shouldnt do anything cause its less then 1000 in damages. ANYWAYS i was just wondering, if i go to the collision center and report it and like tell them i dont go through insurance or something, are they like off the hook or soemthing?

haha the reason i ask this is because yeah i just want my bumper ot be fixed, bascilly the white toyota previa hit my rear end, and now the back bumper is like kinda recessed and like u can push it in. ALSO what mazda dealerships should i take my car to? i want to take it to a mazda dealership because its like a mazda car right,m and because there is a discount for TM3 members, making it cheaper for them.

so if i report to the collision center and file it or soemthing and tell them im not going through insurance does this effect anything in any way?

TIA

First off, since you shouldn\'t be paying for anything out of your own pocket, definately have the car fixed at a Mazda dealership. Depending on where you live, the top three to take it to IMO are Avante RH, Dave Wood, or Westowne. Now, there is a set value in terms of when you have to report the collision, and for some reason I think it\'s $700. Somebody will hopefully clarify that one for you. I would also suggest getting an estimate from Mazda and give it to the Toyota owner. Ask them to pay you up front to have the car fixed. If the damage is not too serious, it makes way more sense for the Toyota owner to do this outside of insurance.

I haven\'t needed to visit a collision centre for a long time :p thus my info might be wrong or not up-to-date ... Reporting to collision centre is just like filing the case. You may choose to handling it privately with the other party/parties involved or let the insurance company to deal with. Either way shouldn\'t hurt you since you were being rear-ended. If the guy who hitted you agreed to pay for the repair and isn\'t giving you hard time to pick a dealer/garage you perfer, I woudln\'t involve the insurance company (just to save him/her $$ in a long run).
Dealerships offer discount on parts are: Avante (17%), Westowne (10%) and Scarboro (20%). Avante is my pick ;)

The bumper will need to be painted. I don\'t think any Mazda dealerships do their bodywork in-house - they will refer you to a bodyshop, or you can find your own.

For painting the bumper I would suggest European Autobody (416 679-8722) - speak to Manuel and say Clement with the Mazda referred you. I\'ve had my rear bumper replaced before too from a hit and run and they did a great job.

UPDATE:

well i ended up just going to international auto body, which is prima(auto 7) auto body. yeah so they quoted me 1720. lol then that mofo didint want to pay that much so i went to insurnace, and took it to eurasia autobody which is the dealers prefered. i think its scarboro mazda\'s shop cause the dude that is doing my car work at scarboro mazda.

lol im driving a kia spectra right now, lets just say the cloth and seats are CRAZY COMFORTABLE, like a real couch.!!! however given my driving style, it rides like a boat rofl.

oh well really diidnt wanna go isnrunace but the guy tried to bargain wiht me the price he should pay. first it was 500 then it was 800. im like thinking \"why should i pay for someone hitting me at all? especially the fact that its not even half.\" lol seriously wtf. i cant believe people can bargain even in that situation.

BTW scarboro mazda quoted it at 1400 soemthing lol.

My wife was trying to back into our parking spot this morning & she scrapped the side of the car with the column.:(

There is a huge dent & paint scrapped from the bumper & side fenders. I can\'t believe you got quoted $1700!? Was that because your bumper was completely totalled? I\'m so scared to see how much this is going to cost me to fix.

How long did you have to leave your car in the shop? I\'m going to have to rent a car for that duration (more money down the drain)

lol,
i left my car for a total of 3 days. it was quored 1400-1700 cause the \"rubar\" (sp?) was bent and had to be replaced and of course the bumper had to be repainted etc.. and then finally labour =p

If you were rear-ended, you should have first gone to insurance, and not even bothered talking to him about going private. It was 100% his fault, so it won\'t affect your premium at all. The guy was just trying to weasel his way out of getting raped during his next insurance assessment.

being plastic, I think that whether a bumper is totalled or slightly damaged is irrelevant. If it is damaged (dented, scratched, etc..) then it just needs to be replaced. I\'m definitely under the impression that you definitely can\'t take out scratches from bumpers (like from a concrete pole) or that you can\'t straighten it out if it\'s dented.

I got my first quote. $700 & it will take one day. Basically there are three parts, the side panel, the bumper & the skirt under the bumper. He said he could fix the bumper. I still have to go see one more bodyshop. I\'m hoping to get it fixed for under $500. I feel like sticking styrofoam around that column. Do you think that would be too insulting to my wife?

any type of damage, samll or big, is costly on any mazda .. that\'s just the way it is...

Candyman: If you got a quote for 7 bills, make sure it\'s a reputable body shop and they will gaurantee their work, cause if that shit starts to peel and begin to look like a hack job, you want to be able to go back so that they can fix it ... even if you find a place that will do it for under 5 bills, please make sure that they\'re not goin to do an assy job, cause trying to save that 200 may be the difference between a good job and a BS spray over ... it may end up costing you more in the long run!

Zaku: You did right in just contacting the insurance, since IT WAS his fault (he rear-ended you) ... your premium should not be affect at all, as long as the collision report reflects that IT WAS his fault and it would be even better if a police report was done to insure that you were rear-ended ... just make sure to keep witnesses handy IN CASE!

FYI- any time you report an accident to the collision centre, you can let them know that you will settle privately (and not sign the form) they give you a form to sign, which basically says that *IF* you sign it they can give the accident report to your insurance.. (i was there last summer) ... so if you sign, then your insurance will definately know .. hope that helps! anyhow .. GOODLUCK!
