rusted exhaust pipe

I was washing my car during the weekend and I notice underneath the car, the exhaust pipe has been rusted. Is there anything I can do about it other than replacing it? Maybe there is some chemical I can spray onto it? I just dont want the exhaust pipe to fell off from the car when driving over bumpy roads.

I dont think its as severe as you think, and i dont think its in any danger of falling off (of course i am no mechanic, and cant be held responsible if it does). If its like mine then its surface rust, and it happens to exposed metal.

I use the same stuff that i use to clean my wheels to clean my exhaust tip, and it works very well.

ie. Simple Green? I have a bit of surface rust on the tip of my aftermarket exhaust. :(

i cant think of the brand that i use at this moment in time and im at work...but i will check when i get home. It works well though!

You guys can use #0000 steel wool, it will get rid of all the crap on the exhaust and tip without scratching it.

Would spraying rust-check on rusted area work? From its website, it seems that rust-check is only used to prevent rust from building up but not removing.

0. If possible, take a pic of the rusted exhaust tip.
1. Wash the entire car. If time is an issue, just clean the exhaust tip and dry it off.
2. Rip off some of that magic wadding polish from the NEVR DULL tin and apply it on the exhaust tip.
3. Use some really really fine steel wool (the finest you can get) and work those rusty areas.
4. see #2
5. see #3
6. Get a rag and clean the exhaust tip off.
7. See more rust? See #2-3. If you\'re happy with it, do a little dance then take a pic and post it.

Oh yeah, this is the stock XRS exhaust. I probably wouldn\'t use steel wool on polished exhaust tips.
