hey guys, i have a quick question for ya...

every now and then, i let my car roll out of a spot rather then put it in reverse (obviously provided that its on a slant/slope)....

well once it reaches the bottom,,, i put it into reverse (to move back a bit more) and when i do so, it makes a grinding noise.......please keep in mind that its a manual transmission and that i DO know how to drive it :p

i have a few ideas on why it grinds, but id rather hear from the experts before making a fool of myself..haha..

none the less, i\'ve stopped letting it roll out and just put it into reverse from the get go..

any info will be greatly appreciated..thanks.

it happeneed to me at the beginning too and i was confused as this is my first stick car. I found the answer and it is best explained here (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question522.htm)

bottom line: engage reverse gear only when stopped.

Part of the reason but not 100% correct.
The answer is because the R gear is has no Syncros. You can put it in Reverse while rolling if you Rev match the engine.

Also don\'t let the car roll in reverse and then immediately go into first gear without braking to a near or complete stop... heheheh :p
