Spontaneous Meets: NE 1 with FRS?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a pair of FRS handsets from Costco (Cobra $89 ~13km range). I was thinking of bringing it with me when I randomly go out for a drive or am out somewhere and just send out a message to anyone else in the area. We could then spontaneously meet up! I live in scarborough but I\'m in the westside alot b/c my gf lives there. So who knows, the chances of running into someone is pretty high. Yeah I know it\'s lame but hey i\'m in my car alot so why not? I\'m just gonna go cruisin lookin for peeps!!

We should have a standard channel that we use to call other Mz3 peeps! (ie channel \'3\' privacy code \'03\' or \'33\')

Just an idea and plus I want to get some use outa these things!

I dont think that will work man. 13KMs is the MAX they will go, and a lot of people have older 2-5KM ones. Also, the subchannel option is not on a lot of handsets, and keeping your radio on all the time in the car would eat batteries. :)

Rather you would pick up lots of calls from the warehouses, Canadian Tire, Costco, movie theaters, restaurants, etc.... and the odd ones on highways when some people go out in more than 2 cars (usually out-of-towners).

Yeah it\'s true that the range and battery life is limited, never really tried and tested them out.
But I\'m thinking that you wouldn\'t have them on all the time. For instance you switch on your radio when you go to Walmart on Sat. with your woman (not that \'I\' do that;) ) or the mall. I was at Sherway the other day and I\'m sure that some of you guys are in that area; or for the east-north people, Metro square, Pacific mall, Hwy 7 etc. you know the \'hot\' spots.
I know its difficult if you don\'t live in the GTA cause the density is quite low. but I\'m sure some of you guys are out and about driving your car in the area!
