View Full Version : 3M adhesive
i have two questions ... first does anyone know how i can easilly get off my side marker rings, use a hair dryer or something so it doesn\'t ruin the paint??
and second, does anyone know where i can get the same sort of adhesive which came with them, or something equally as good ... i have no idea where to get this stuff!

what happened to your side markers?!?!?
you should be able to use fishing line or dental floss to \'cut\' them away from your body (car\'s body that is :p ) and then use some goo gone to clean up the mess. do it on a warm day so it\'s easier for the glue to liquify. not sure how bad or good a household hairdryer would be if you keep it far away not to make it UBER hot you should be ok.. but wait for someone else to chime in :p
jimdragon8 was installing his door sills and needed more double stick tape. he gave me the remaindder of his roll, it\'s called \"duck tape\" and has a ducky on it :) i BELIEVE it comes in a green box and can be found at HD or CT..

a hair dryer close to the paint won\'t heat it up enough to damage it ....provided you keep the hair dryer moving and not concentrated on one spot
a hot, sunny day may not be enough, but it all varies. i did mine on a sunny, high-20C day and the emblem wouldn\'t come off unless heated.
when the dealership put my 2.3 emblems on, i took it off with a hair dryer. heat up the surrounding adhesive, ran some dental floss through, started pulling the outer part of the emblem (pulled very slowly), heated up the adhesive while pulling and it came off fairly easily. any residue left on the body was rolled with my fingers and any subsequent residue was removed by goo-gone and then waxed.
awesome, thanks guys ...
majic, i\'m tinting my side markers like MK did, so i have to remove the rings so i can take off the markers ... shoulda thought of doing it before i put them on, but oh well, nothing beats the excitement of getting mail from Japan :D

emc, i might have a few side marker rings left over from the GB soooooo :p in case you break yours or don\'t feel like playing with duck tape.. lemme know..
but this might take a while to sort stuff out and if the rings look ok then the tape will be your best option.
