Hey all do you think that I should buy a car jack as well as some jack stands? I\'m by no means a car mechanic but I\'d like to do some possible DIY mods (paint calipers, adjust suspension, sway bar, remove intake? etc.)

I\'m sure it\'s not safe to just put the car on cinder blocks right?

Prices
Canadian Tire $60 2 ton jack + 2 jacksatnds
Costco $99 3 ton jack + 2 jackstands

what do you think, a good investment or not?

jacks are a good investment, especially for the DIY mods you listed.

if i had the space, i\'d get the 3 ton jack. them things are huge and weigh quite a bit but do the job very well.

i was thinking about getting some too ... i forget who said it on here, but he used 2 OEM jacks to paint his calipers, and said they did the job ... but 60$ for 2 is pretty good, it beats the nervousness of hiking the car up on 2 OEMs

I was in sams club today, they had a kit for $59.99 . 1 * two ton jack, two jack stands, one creeper, a few other odds and ends...I would buy it, as I would love to paint my calipers, but no more room in my apartment :(

Always a good investment. Even if you just look cool underneath your car and you don\'t know much neighbours will respect you.

It\'s also another way to find out who your true neighbour friends are as well;

The good neighbour(s); hey need a hand? I got (insert expensive mechanic equipment) if you need?

The bad neighbour(s); hey neighbour are you busy this weekend? :D

Get the jack and jack stands. Preferably from CanTi. After seeing a WalMart one end up balancing the car on only two of its four wheels (the jack itself) I\'m not too sure about going cheapy here. Once you get the jack and stands, spend similar amount or more on a torque wrench. :D

trust me when i say that the CanTi 2.25 ton jack does the same thing on asphalt.

a 3 ton is really the best way to go, if you have the room to store it.
