Sorry, still getting used to this board. I think I sent you a private message by accident.
I guess I was just trying to compare to see what others have paid.
Thanks!!

my dad has to nod on the deal,
he\'s in paying part or full for the car, probably part.
I\'ll be stuck with my 14 yrs old car if he doesn\'t help.
My A/C JUST DIED on the protege, dun even have time to check it.
I saw a GT GFX black sedan on bayview and highway seven the other day (anyone here?), and it looks decent, so I got interested in it. If it is anyone here, I bet your wondering, why was my car so loud. I had to downshift to stop... lol, another reason for me to get a car eh? (brakes work, just not the best)

haha yeah....
I dun mean to offend anyone when I say this BUT, I think my protege can probably take more abuse than any new mazdas.
I got my hands on it when I got my G2, the car was already at 140,000KM.
At first I didnt know how to maintain it probably, and my guardian wouldn\'t believe me when I told her, we need to change the oils.
Ever since University, I\'ve been changing engine oil every 5000km. got two tranny oil changes (they messed up the first one, and didnt change the tranny oil filter).
Besides the maintance, I drive the car hard. Redlined every otherday (not anymore, grew out of it), redlined it cold a few times (just a few, only during the 1st yr), downshifting (itz a auto, I\'m still doing that, just a bad habit), I corner hard (dunno if im anygood, but i corner hard).

It\'s funny how older items last longer!! It\'s like they don\'t make things the way they used to.
I used to be hard on my previous cars and I\'m trying to be nice to the 3. Not sure how long it\'ll last. ;)

I\'ll miss my protege! :(
I hope I can have as much fun with the 3 in the snow as did in the protege.
(I only screw around in empty parking lots)

It will be more fun if you get the techtronic...or whatever that thingy is called! LOL
It\'s great actually, it\'ll help me learn to drive stick.

I think it will. It tells me what gear I\'m in.
Why not?

Why not?
1) there are only 4 gears vs 5 gears in a MT (different ratios) so at different speeds you will be in different gears
2) no clutch - hardest thing to do is to balance the clutch at its catching point (uphill especially)
3) rev matching takes practice on a MTX car (ATX will do that for you)
4) some ATX won\'t let you downshift into a gear that would already be in or past redline
5) there are probably other reasons i can\'t think of right now

if you want to do that then borrow a friend\'s old beater and get them ot teach it to you on it.. or go to a dealership for a test drive (that\'s what i did) and then buy a stick car...

The first time i learned stick, was on a 3. my uncle took out a 3 stick and gave me a 15 min lesson. He was interested in the 3, but wanted to teach me at the same time

Not exactly. Unless you\'re driving an SMG-equipped car (which isn\'t exactly an automatic to begin with), an automatic will not rev-match. The torque converter just soaks up the shifts.
A rev-matched downshift on an MTX is a lot smoother than downshifting on a tiptronic/automatic.

hi folks,
We too have just bought a 3. the sport gt. I have been lurking on the mazda forums for a couple of months. Began after I decided that the M3 might actually be the car I was going to purchase/lease. As others have said before me, thanks very much for all the comments pro/con that you have submitted in this forum. It definitely assisted in our (the wife and I) final decision. At this timem it appears that it will bhe the masda sport gt with ac and at in titanium grey. Delivery date is to be 10 business days from today. VIN number to be provided by next Wednesday. We started looking for a new vehicle back in march. As several sales people lamented. \"Boy, you guys are methodical.\" They obviously meant \"slooowwwww\". Probably true but we are happy with our selection and pricing (will provide details later). Anyway, thanks again to all of you.
:)

hey congrats on your decision (purchase?)! the 3 is a great car as everyone here will attest to. and it\'s not being sloowww....it\'s being wise! way to go. :D

The only way to truly appreciate the 3 is to be methodical in checking out the competition. It is the people who make car buying decisions in 10 minutes that really lose out. They migrate to the Civic or the Corolla or similar vehicles and don\'t bother to really check out what is available in the market. Only intelligent buyers make a M3 decision because only these type of people value the price/performance/excitement that this car offers. Everyone else is happy to put up with mundane, underpowered econo-boxes.
So congrats on the purchase.
