Significant Others Upset With Your Car Hobby?

Saw this on a few other forums and it\'s a pretty interesting topic once you hear everyone\'s stories.

it\'s gonna be a \'wait and see\' game for me.. :D hopefully not though - plus I don\'t have enough $$ to make it a real hobby. :( All I can really do is keep my ride spankin clean

one of my friends have probs with the gf just by spending more than a couple hours washing/drying/waxing the car... :(

Mine\'s pretty good with my hobbies, I support and let her do her things,
and she lets me do mine! Still doesn\'t wanna come out to meets tho.
I tell her about the 40 M3\'s cruisin the streets, and filling the parking lots,
and I get the old, \"That\'s nice honey\" :sarc

In fact, she wanted to get me HIDs for my b-day \'cause she always hears me
talkin bout it, but didn\'t know exactly what they were or where to get them. :p

But she did get me the next best thing!! POWER TOOLS!!!:D :D :D

My g/f doesn\'t mind with the hobby just as long as she is part of the plans. We wash the car together. She can\'t wait to help me wax the car. But for such things as buying HIDs, System, or Rims, etc... She\'ll open a can of whoop a$$ on me!! oh well.. gotta take the good with the bad. I\'m supposedly saving up for our house and her engagement ring.. *Sigh

So far so good for me!! Today my girl helped me install the TWM shortshifter! yep you need an extra set of hands to take out that damn shifter. She helped with the instructions and even got her hands greasy! Nothin like a pair of greasy hands!

She encouages my hobby as long as I get her this $80k ring from birks!:sarc

As a matter of fact, we bought a house in Oakvile two months ago (will be built in Mar. \'06)
and I just happened to propose to her TODAY! (she said,\"yes\" BTW)

My boyfriend... laughs at me when I used to tell him stories of me n my boyz running around searching for my lovely car... test driving every car known to man rippin the crap outta demos... he teases me about this place...... he bugs me about the MOM meet... but when it comes to him and his cars... he\'ll ask me to come over and help... or keep him company... (laugh)...

When some chick backed out into his car a month ago... we were arguing about whether Turtle wax polishing compound or McGuire\'s wax would be better to take out the scratches....

It\'s weird... we agree on things.... we have the same hobbies.... but for some reason it\'s almost like he feels we compete or something??? I dunno... DUMMIES

my girl doesn\'t have an issue with the hobby. She just finds it amusing....She doesn\'t understand why I\'m so into it, and want to spend money on mods... She has a golf TDI, and drives the hell out of it...

My girlfriend thinks its silly, a bunch of grown men, and women with the same car getting together to talk about the car and modding it, and racing etc. She\'s come out to (force is more like it) a couple of Toronto Prelude Club meets and she started getting all into it...asking how fast cars were and what turbo\'s do...so she\'s getting better...

My wife is awesome, she shares in the hobby with me. When I had my civic, she wanted me to turbo it cause it was too slow. She took the car to redline more than I did! She also refused to drive an automatic car (thank God). For my birthday a few years ago she bought me a short shifter, and she already has a killer audio system in her 3 (installed when it was only six days old).

Needless to say I am a very lucky man;)

My boyfriend isn\'t a car guy (thats a first for me), so he doesn\'t really care much. He\'s offered to come along to meets, and has no problem with me being part of a club with mostly guys.

Not that I consider it a \"car hobby\", but a love for my own car, really.

i\'ve noticed that all that have posted replies have understanding partners, that either accept or concur with their partner\'s hobby/addiction (their cars)

BUT

I also see that 5 people have voted \'YES\' so I was curious to know who it was and why they don\'t put down what they plan to do about the situation now and IF they plan to take any sort of action? ... do they just try to hide the precious time spent with their second love from the partner? or where they just to ashamed or embarrased to let everyone know that their GF or BF is pissed off at the time the spend going to meets, washing the car, or waxing? supwitdat?

Well ... my gf understands but she does get upset if I do too much car-related stuff (ie. multiple meets in a single month). She\'s also not too happy with me and Darknights... she doesn\'t get the value of $40 just to park my stock looking car in a field for two entire days and have people walk by possibly thinking \"wtf.\"

Maybe she does know about the mounds and mounds of female models that will be there? ALRIGHT WHO KNOCKED ON ME!!!!!! :D

She must realize that to complete me, those other two priorities above her must be kept in balance and maintained. She\'s been pretty good so far and realizes that her Dumbestic crap is garbage and is a gas guzzler. My love and passion is like a Japanese built car and my sessions with her are like a iVTEC engine. To keep me going I need little maintenance but just regular oilchanges.
