Turning A Corner

They generally involve a red light, a long wait, a haphazard configuration or drivers without a lot of patience.

They’re the worst intersections in the city for accidents. Toronto last released their list using numbers from 1999-2001.

Since then, there have been red light cameras, added police vigilance and new warnings for motorists. But the number of serious collisions continues to be a major concern for authorities and those who watch traffic patterns in the G.T.A.

(A “serious collision” means a person was killed or badly injured. It doesn’t include only property damage.)

There are an average of 68,000 crashes every year in Toronto, with nearly 17,000 involving a personal injury to either a pedestrian, a driver, a cyclist, or an innocent bystander. The average fatality rate as of 2004 stood at 66, a number cops have worked hard to reduce.

Here’s where city stats indicate the highest risks were for those turning a corner on traffic in Toronto.

1) Black Creek & Lawrence W.

2) Eglinton & Warden

3) Kennedy & Sheppard E.

4) Lawrence & Warden

5) Ellesmere & Warden

6) Lawrence E. & McCowan

7) Finch W. & Jane

8) Lawrence E. & Victoria Park

9) Dufferin & Finch

10) Markham & Progress

The city’s Steve Johnston tells Pulse24.com that’s the last list authorities plan to issue. Experts believe it focuses too much attention on specific areas, and makes drivers lax at other intersections that are equally dangerous.

So to update the list, we’re turning to you. What do you believe is the worst intersection in the city? What have your experiences been at those corners? Are you more cautious there than elsewhere? Or do you avoid them altogether and go a different way? Email us at news@pulse24.com, and we’ll share your experiences.

One of my best friends lives in Waterloo, but his family home is here in Scarborough.....when he was calling around for insurance quotes he learned that if he puts Waterloo as his home as opposed to anywhere in T.O. he would be saving about $500 a year! It\'s really kind of silly actually considering that he drives at least three times as much as I do in a year yet his rates are lower:sarc

Well other than the fact we have a bunch of shitty drivers in Scarlem,...according to a cop friend of mine probably near 20% of the drivers don\'t even have insurance or licenses:hoho

Well, the car was slightly modded in that it was lowered, tinted windows, exhaust, intake, and a budget audio system. I was more pissed that they stole the sub box that my friend and I had just built ourselves, and it sounded so damn good!

Hey PSIVIC I was up there yesterday asked them if they would install my system but I have all the parts, the Guy says \"We don\'t install unless you purchase parts here\" and we\'re too busy anyways\".I said \"Are you serious? What kind of business sense is that? and walked out along with another couple of guys that got the wave. They told me to take it to Perfect Tones in Milton anyone hear of this place?

I personally know one of the owners of Perfect Tones......he had installed the system in my 6 and in my wife\'s old P5. I unfortunately would NOT recommend going there. He is a very nice guy, and truly does love car audio, the quality of their work is simply not good. I have since re-done the entire system in my car on my own with the exception of the sub box (currently being made by Chase, should be ready tomorrow). They just don\'t take the time to do things right. Milton is not exactly close, so when I had finished with my 6 install I was driving home all happy. Had to go to a party that night, and on my way there I started to hear a rattle from the front doors. Turns out they had not securely fastened the cross-overs. So I make the trip all the way back out there, they rip the doors apart, \"fix\" it, and off I go again. Next day, the same thing happens. There were other area\'s like this that I was not terribly happy with. If you want my opinion, don\'t go to Perfect Tones.

I am quite surprised that Chase said that to you, cause I got a quote from him to install the system in my wife\'s 3 just two weeks ago, and I already had all of my gear also. He had no problem giving me the quote, and considering the amount of work I wanted to done it wasn\'t too bad. I also have gotten better than average service from them, so this is very strange. I\'m going there tomorrow, I\'ll mention it and see what he says.

I\'ve heard quite good things about Sidd\'s Radio (a friend of mine knows the owner) and also Nosh Car Audio up in Newmarket. Perhaps try visiting www.canadiancaraudio.com and doing some homework on a few shops. Truth be told though, you should do the install yourself. Eurojet and I did the one in my wife\'s 3 in a day and it was a full gutting of everything!
