Hey guys!!!
I know this has been done before from the Mazda3 Forum board, but I have been wanting to give it a shot. Due to a beating I took last Friday from Female Boxing (Foxy boxing.. see below pic), it pretty much killed my weekend. SO I had time for other projects that I had put on hold.

Some guy on the other forum had blue as well but he left the middle part w/o paint, ewwy
So I masked off the blue sections (painted) then Black (painted) then used a Sharpie Pen to go over the letters to make them stand out!....

Oh and I have the mazda logo sitting here on my desk.. just need some 3M tape to put it on

Let me know what ya think?

Thanks :]
Ya I just went to CA tires and got high heat engine paint, and high heat engine gloss paint. They are good up to 500 degrees. You can get it any where from $6.99 to $9.99 depending on what color ya want.

Then if ya want if you going to this weekend\'s meet I can even give ya sharpie pen I have left over :]

I have a question....

Can the car be driven without the cover on?

Cause the missus is taking the car to London for the weekend and it would be a good w/e project shile she\'s away.

Cheers,

Yeah it\'s no big deal to drive without it. I\'ve seen some customer cars come in without them on. Maybe they\'re painting them too?

haha ya I drove around the day I was painting it without the cover on. NOOO biggie...

I got my paint from CA Tire... The high heat paints I saw where $6 and up.
I bought a brand that cost $9.99 only because I like the color better than that of the cheaper brands. If you want the exact name, I can get that for you later tonight. :D

Looks real SWEEEEEEEET Electra.

Flowers!.....haha:)

I\'m thinking of painting the cover, but also placing the 2.3 emblem on it too.(bottom right corner)...
It\'ll be chrome emblem on black

What do you think?

ya that would be pretty cool hehem but it all depends on the flowers you pick ;)

For the 3 logo as long as you either have a stencil or have a very steady hand, it should turn out awesome.
;)

I am really curious to see more with some great design concepts (such as yours _3).
Taking a simple idea and just running wild with it!!

I plan on taking one of the 2.3 emblems which are usually placed on the doors and placing it on the cover with heat resistant glue. The cover will be Indigo blue center, Gloss black sides with the shaved letters and emblem.

how do u take the mazda symbol off the engine cover without breaking it

Get a knife with a long, but wide, blade. Work the blade under the emblem, and wiggle the knife so you can wedge more of the blade in there. The symbol will bend but it shouldn\'t break. I was also able to lift away most of the double sided tape too. Clean off the gunk remaining with goo-gone, clean up the cover, and get to work!

Take your time with this mod too ... I\'m in the middle of this right now and I messed up my first attempt. (It was all blotchy.) And taking off the paint is a PITA! I\'ve done the best I can, and tomorrow I\'ll try again.

Good luck!

The symbol sits on a raised lip (see photo below).
Insert your knife at the 10 and 2 O\'Clock positions and wiggle the knife around and up/down....
SLOWLY and CAREFULLY.
Eventually the tape will break up and the logo will come off in mint condition.

And yes... I\'m in the midst of doing this MOD too ! :D

You could also put masking tape around the emblem if you don\'t want to go the knife route.

ya I wouldn\'t really suggest that as it would look very messy.
Take the extra 10mins to peel it off for the professional look.. hehe
I\'m just looking for some 3M tape to put the thing back on cause I peeled all the tape off... I also dont suggest going that... I\'ve heard you can leave it on and reuse it. :D

Yeah, as I mentioned, this happened to me too. :(

PIck up some paint stripper from walmart or CT. (I haven\'t found one specifically for high heat paints.) You\'ll probably have to go through 3 or 4 treatments to remove most of it. And you\'re not likely to get it back to anywhere near what it looked like when you started either. But at least it will feel uncoated. After that, try to re-coat everything as best you can.

just to add..paint stripper will probably have an effect on the plastic just so you know. since you\'re gonna paint it it probably won\'t matter anyway...

to be safe I\'d test some of the paint remover on an inconspicuous area of the plastic..
