it can be had for $125+tax+shipping (olivier) or $160 no tax shipped i believe (umnitza) so far that\'s all version 1. umnitza has v2 coming out shortly but lately it seems like both sources are questionable (take this as you wish). if only we could order from simota directly..

Well, i finally got around to installing this intake.

In addition to the install how-tos on this site, here are the links to some more instructions:

Autoexe Intake install (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/653541)

Simota Intake install from M3F (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=20909.0)

K&N Install PDF - Steps 1 to 18 outline the stock intake removal (http://www.kandn.com/instructions/69-6010.pdf)

How does it sound? pretty damn mean

How does it perform? no hard dyno numbers yet but the car does pull to redline quicker than stock

Here is a sample of data from the scan tool - stock vs. intake on the same route i take almost every day:

Stock
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
0.8% - Long Term Fuel Trim
23* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6672 RPM
124.82 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

Intake
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
6.3% - Long Term Fuel Trim
23* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6678 RPM
127.89 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

At nearly the same RPM, the numbers with the intake show that it is flowing 3 g/s higher than stock. Looks like the intake is doing as advertised and letting in more air.

More numbers:

Stock
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
0.8% - Long Term Fuel Trim
22* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6471 RPM
123.95 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

Intake
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
6.3% - Long Term Fuel Trim
23* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6459 RPM
126.12 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

Similar RPM, 2.17 g/s more air flow with intake

Stock
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
0.8% - Long Term Fuel Trim
22.5* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6596 RPM
121.38 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

Intake
0% - Short Term Fuel Trim
6.3% - Long Term Fuel Trim
23* - Ignition Timing Advance in Degrees
6602 RPM
127.89 g/s - MAF Air Flow Rate in grams/sec

Similar RPM, 6.51 g/s more air flow with intake

needless to say, with an increase in airflow, there should be a correlated increase in power output.

was the intake worth it? we\'ll see as the kms rack on

Big thanks for the directions to fit this sucka....:)

Just bought Nathans and installed it today....only took me 3 hours!!:sarc

Went for a quick test drive up the DVP, no CEL\'s yet, but I only did about 15km\'s.
Sound is awesome....I was giggling like a schoolgirl every time I accelerated hard.

First words out of the wifes mouth on the highway were..\"Is it supposed to be that loud?\":D :D

Thanks to WuD for the intake and to Majestic for the great intall tips...

One note for future installs.....

As the MAF sensor is such a delicate install and the mounting pins aren\'t quite long enough for the bolts to screw tight, I would recommend using a spot of blue thread lock to ensure the bolts don\'t work loose.

Just my 2 cents worth.....:sarc

How often are you suppose to clean/oil the filter on this?

I read on Mazda3Forums every 30-50k km\'s, seems like a lot me, but then what do I know. :sarc

Can\'t you use the K&N cleaning kit?

no...someone tried it (the K&N cleaning kit) on M3F and it ended up ruining the filter and coated the MAF with the K&N oil.

K&N uses cotton gauze...the oil itself is pink and the cotton is white.

the simota filter is something other than cotton (can\'t remember right now).

but the bottom line is that you need to get the simota cleaning kit. i\'ve asked tires23 for a price back in that thread where they posted that they had the simota intake for sale, but they never did respond.

Hey guys i\'ve had the umnitza for about 10,000 miles now maybe more, and yes it does work and sound great. Just wanted to inform you that i have already cleaned once and i found out from umnitza that they told me just to use soap and water and dry it off real well, so thats what i did and it worked great, just make sure you dry it well. You don\'t want any water getting sucked up into the engine.....
