Hey, I know this is a minor issue compared to the other engine and/or brake problems some of you have had... But has anyone else had the floor clip that hooks the driver\'s mat not fastened properly? Not only does it not keep the mat in place, but the underlying carpeting now has small tears where the clip has been forced when I enter the vehicle.

I\'ve only had the car for 2 weeks, and I recently noticed it when I was cleaning. I\'ve removed the clip and I\'m going to contact the dealer for a solution, but I hope they don\'t give me a hard time.

Just wondering.

I\'ve noticed the same thing the first time I removed my driver matts. My plastic clip is tearing on the front side from the carpet and I know will eventually let go. I\'ll bring it up tomorrow at my dealer to take a look at it and provide me with a solution. I\'m going in to get my 17\" rims replaced, have my driver door window regulator checked, and also an oil change done.

Keep you posted.

Anyone have any pictures of these tears in the carpet?
I\'m curious to see exactly what we are talking about!!

the carpet has 2 ~1cm slit in it (it might actually be a cross with a 1cm wide slit and a 0.5cm tall slit, i forget). the clip (fetured below) slides in through the slit, under the carpet, and comes up through the other slit. if you tug hard enough i guess you can rip the carpet between the 2 slits

slit 1 - where the \"U\" is
slit 2 - follow the teeth to the right and it\'s where it curves up

his hook was coming off the base of the driver\'s seat.. and it was more of a loop thingie.. i 4get now

Instead of that plastic clip, my car has a metal version!!!
But I can see the slits in the Carpet where the plastic clip would go, if I had one.
I bought my car Jan 09, 2004 if that makes a difference.

Hmmm... My car was assembled in August 2004, purchased (actually leased) in October 2004. So I\'m guess that it was a VA/VE (cost savings) idea implemented for 2005 MY cars. I remember seeing the metal clip on my sister\'s 2002 MY Protege. So definitely it was Mazda searching for money to decontent the M3 and give back some to parent Ford.

I also bet you that the carpeting is one of the thinnest in market place. I remember with Chrysler where we had to downgrade the \"weight\" of the carpeting... something like from a 20-lb carpeting to 18-lb carpeting, saving a few pennies per vehicle.

I\'ll have to check if my carpeting has provisions (hole in carpeting and hole in sheet metal) underneath the seat to install the metal version (when mine will eventually breaks). But I have to admit I like the fact that the plastic version it\'s less intrusive compared to the metal one.

Cheers,

I wonder why the car companies don\'t just put velcro on the backs of the mats? That would be an easy fix & hidden.

I have the Metal clip as well..... and thanks for pointing out it looks intrusive=(UGLY):(

p.s how many people use va/ve\'s in their work? just us auto-guys?
