Hi,

I am new to this board and I find the members here are very useful :)

I got an initial quote Mazda3 GT Sport, Manual with AC, cash payment $25250.

21485
+685 frieght
+510 PDE
+100 AC TAX
+75 GAS TAX
+199 ETCHING
+ 15 %
26512
-750 cash rebate.
25250 tax in

Is it a good or bad deal? Are those frieght, tax, etc reasonable?

Most of those figures are something you can\'t get away from (government set).
But by the looks of it, they\'re all right on the money.
(I\'m guessing that the one marked Etching is paint, which seems a little steep, i think the average cost for the paint was around 110 unless you had chosen white)

For a compairson, I purchased mine (Sport GT with leather/Roof and a few other options) for around $29,000. So, yeah, I\'d say it\'s a pretty good deal!

I asked for Orange. I agree, the paint is on the expensive side :(

How about the base price of $21485? Is it a good price to start with? How much do you think I can bring the price down to (or ask for some freebies)?

Yeah, if that price is correct, it looks really good. Which dealer quoted you that?

This quote is from the Interner Sales Manager from Mazda Ottawa.

You\'re correct, the number doesn\'t sound right..... the number is the quote from email. He either typed it wrong, or something fishy is going on!

+75 GAS TAX
read: Gas Guzzler Tax (Ontario Fuel Conservation Tax) here (http://www.greenontario.org/strategy/autos.html)

+199 ETCHING
i believe it refers to VIN etching (puting down your VIN number on the windows of the car - somewhat theft deterrent??? if you REALLY want it, get a DYI kit such as this one (http://www.vinguard.org/)

Why would you be buying the etching if you don\'t even know what it is? BTW, $199 isn\'t bad, Volvo charges $600 for the same thing on our cousin, the S40:sarc

Etching is a dealer add on. They can charge as much or a little as they want.
As for the paint... Cost is $86. MSRP is $105

etching can be bought at an auto parts store for $~$20. in reality, it\'s a stencil and some low molar acid that probably costs a few cents.

it is:

1) useless
2) useless
3) useless

don\'t pay for it. the premise behind window etching is that it will deter thieves from stealing the car and sending it to a chop shop since the cost of replacing all the windows on a car can be quite high.

as a \"theft deterrant\", you don\'t get any discount for window etching so what\'s the point in paying $199 for it.

What\'s the point of spending the $199 you ask? If it actually deters theives from stealing your car that\'s a pretty big reason! I have yet to see proof one way or the other, but I\'m just saying, if it works, it\'s not a bad deal at all.

if a thief really wants the car, etching or not, they will take it.

the point of the post was that this exact same product can be had for cheaper than $199. it would be understandable if insurance were to provide a discount to offset the $199, but they don\'t.

so lulu should not waste his/her money when:

1) there is no hard data as to whether this works or not (which is why insurance companies don\'t offer a discount on etching but do on a vehicle immobilizer)

and

2) the same product can be had for cheaper.

my understanding some ins companies will have discount, of course not huge %, if you have etching on all windows. but agree why pay $200 when you can have cheaper one, even lower insurance rate can\'t offset the price.

From what I was told, the etching is for theft deterrent purposes... the markham guy told me that if i got the etching and the car is STILL stolen, then the dealership (in my case, markham mazda) will pay me $4,000 on top of what the insurance company will pay me for my stolen car. Provided that this theft happens within 4 years of purchase.

Markham mazda charged 99 for this... i believe it\'s on all their cars on the lot. same goes for the wheel locks.

I thought it\'s a pretty decent thing to have. not like i had a choice anyway.
