Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
Before you get it activated are you only supposed to get "ACQUIRING" on the display or are you supposed to hear anything? I went through the online activation process and it just keeps on giving me that message even after 10 minutes?!

I am pretty sure it can't be done on line, otherwise, I would have included it in the OP.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
They have a test channel that you would get if you don't have a sub. I think its channel 180 something. Its basically the preset channel that comes with the Sirius OEM receiver when its brand new.
If its stuck in ACQUIRING, it probably means you don't have signal.

I can remember when I got mine (that sticks on the window) that the preset channel was like a traffic/weather for somewhere in the states..

Alright, so the dealership didn't provide me with the ESN number and they have no idea what it is. I tried to call the number that you provided Biz but the guy on the other end couldn't help me unless I had the ESN number. Overall, I won't be enjoying the satellite radio unless someone has a solution for me. I'm going to try and call the dealership again on Tuesday but I very much doubt they'll be able to help me.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
The ESN is easy to get, the dealership doesn't have it, it is stored in your HU
Turn on Car.
Hit "Sat"
Press and hold "DISP"
Display should have first set of digits displayed.
Turn right knob to see the last 4 digits.

Man! I'm really digging the SIRIUS SAT RADIO! That's ALL I listen to when I'm in the car. My favourite station has got to be Electron/Dance - 36. They play all my favourites! AND they display all the info too! Like artist, song name, etc.

Make sure you turn the knob that is on the RIGHT hand side. It'll display the rest of the digits.

really? when sat radio first came out, I bought it from Future shop and after couple of weeks it got really boring and all I was listening is hip hop and electronic/dance for $12 or something, I returned it after.. mp3 or ipod is the way to go without paying to listen!

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
hahah, maybe it's just the hype of new things. I'll see what happens after the pre-paid 6months.

Its channel 184 that is the test channel. When I first installed my OEM tuner ages ago, the previous owner had cancelled his service but took out the tuner before Sirius could send the "kill" signal down. I had free radio for 10 days.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
i leave it on Area 33 most of the time (channel 33) or BBC Radio 1 (channel 11). Radio 1 is a bit more mainstream (and sometimes garbage).. A33 is pretty decent though they do have some weird stuff playing from time to time..it's mostly house/trance stuff.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
I listen to 1, 9, 36, 40, 141 mostly. I do get bored listening to just one station.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
Here's a question that maybe only the TheBiz can answer.
If you don't activate right away, how long is the free 6 month pre-paid available?
A friend that has a GM vehicle says it starts the day you take the car even though you have to activate it. I don't believe this as how would they know who you are to begin the clock ticking if you haven't activated. I'm sure the dealership does not do anything at POI time so I believe it is good and the clock starts at time of registration.
Does Mazda provide Sirus with the ESN range and that's how they know to give you the 6 months free?

It starts the day you activate it, not the day you drive it off the lot. I only activated mine yesterday and I asked the Sirius customer rep this very question. They told me it is 6 months free from customer activation.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
Great thanks for the confirmation. I pretty much figured that but had to check. I'm probably going to activate mine in the spring.

Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
Can you get the OEM receiver installed on GT models? If so any idea on the cost? Just for curiosities sake.
-
Re: 2008.5 Sirius Radio setup.
Can the Sirius be activated on the GS model or only on GT?

Yes it can. You need to buy the OEM receiver and do the installation yourself. Everything is plug and play but you will need to remove some interior trims. I installed the OEM Sirius unit into my car 3 years ago and its been working fine.

Thanks that's great news. As far as the antenna goes, is that something that comes with the OEM receiver or is the antenna that comes stock (09 GT stubby) sirius ready?
Also, would you mind saying what you paid for the unit?

Since my car is a 2004, I had to mount the antenna that came with the OEM unit separately. You'll have to find out more information about the integrated antenna that comes with the 09s.
I paid $200 USD for the unit but it was used. Back then, Canada didn't have satellite radio yet so I got it from M3F.
