HELP !! grounding kit disaster
So i recently went to go and install my grounding kit at this place called alltech after driving my car home i parked it and went out.
after returning home i got into my car and turned the car on and it started up but with a little bit of a problem as soon as i left my driveway i turned the lights on and then the lights started flickering my power steering was turning on and off and everything was just glitching and then turned off. now my car sits in my garage and wont turn on .
i took off the grounding kit so the electrical came on but when i turn the key i hear the engine crank but no spark. i dont know what to do here !
:(
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
If you are lucky it's just a dead battery... when you say the you hear the engine crank, is it turning over or trying to? If it turning over but the car isn't starting then check over all of the wiring, make sure nothing is disconnected.
Hate to say it, but if you had things "flickering" and "glitching" you likely fried something.
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
ye imma take it to the mechanic to see.
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
is this a self made grounding kit or you actually bought a premade/brand name one?
if the shop didn't follow install instructions, they could screw it all up... do you have the instructions if it's a brand name kit? You should have your mechanic follow up on it using the instructions
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
Yeah its a NRG grounding kit and im going to have to call a tow truck to take it back there garage.
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
well thats bloody scary! sorry to hear it.. I have some 0 gauge wiring and was planning on installing my own grounding kit... maybe I'll pass on that for now
good luck man - they should guarantee their work no?
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
how the fnck do you screw up a grounding kit install? Did they hook it up to the +ve batt terminal or something? lol

If you're scared of doing a grounding kit install, i recommend you never ever do any kind of work under the hood of your car. It is literally the simplest thing in the world to do. Seriously.

Haha... the story at the top scared the shit outta me and if theres a risk of frying my electronics I'd rather not do it... usually I try to find a good how to guide, then I feel more confident
If you have a guide send the link on over
Sorry for getting off topic
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
OP - please keep us updated
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
ye got the car running but got 2 codes now Po123 and P0222
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
those are throttle body codes
I have a good feeling those monkeys at that shop didn't bother reading the instructions and just slapped the grounding kit in
this is why you should try to DIY, especially when there's instructions telling you how to put it in
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
to be fair there were no instructions with the package but now all i can do is hope and wait
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
so apparently this NRG "kit" is just a bundle of wires and loose connectors in a fancy box... no instructions and not even any precut length wires for you to attach them to specific points under the hood
so much for a "kit".... I can see what altech screwed things up now
this is probably what you should've got instead:
http://www.flex-innovations.com/big_3_kit.htm
http://www.flex-innovations.com/mz3_instruct.htm
instructions on that page... hope it helps
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
ill be using those instructions 100%, thanks hope things are better with tiago!
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
ye so they had to replace my starter , i aint going to be grounding my car till the summer now , prob going to get the big 3 kit . and deff not going back to alltech that place just sucked ass .
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
Battery? I had to charge my battery not realizing my inside light was on
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
But how could a grounding kit cause your starter to goafter you said they ot the car running? The starter is grounded on the block itself and is supplied only power from the battery.
Also the troible codes you got dont make any sense either in regards to ground wiring unless they unplugged and left the TB unplugged
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
should there be an inline amp connected to the TB wire? if so does anyone know the right fuse to get if you do need one?
Re: HELP !! grounding kit disaster
You don't need a fuse for a ground, unless there is a possibility of it accidentally touching a power wire somewhere... which isn't really a possibility.

I'm thinking it's coincidence that this all happened to you, and had nothing to do with the grounding kit.
:agree
