TM3 Times #8 - March 2009
Hi all and welcome to this month's edition of the TM3 Times. It is I, your reporter Angela signing in for her monthly duty. For a month I thought was going to be slow, it was anything but that! It's been so productive that I'm going to need two posts to bring you the Times this month!
Again we have Cardinal Fang contributing with his very own "Thoughts From The Pulpit"
And Krakor (who I got the opportunity to meet at the Oakville meet-awesome guy) with his Family Guy quote of the Month.
First up: Audio Heaven Meet
Quote:
Audio Heaven Winter Meet- Sunday, February 8, 2009
A sunny, but blistery Sunday afternoon welcomed our Toronto Mazda 3 members to Audio Heaven’s small shop in Richmond Hill, ON. Jeff once again supported our club by welcoming us all into his new shop and showing us his wonderful merchandise at very reasonable prices.

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1665.jpg
Most of us were welcomed into the shop by Jeff’s lovely little daughter Stacie and were given an Audio Heaven decal to put on our cars. Some people were also invited into the back of the shop to see the current progress on a couple of cars he was currently installing some of his products into. Many of our members crowded around the various display cases and tables set up in the showroom and peered into remote car starters, car alarms, audio decks and amplification devices all for sale and installation by Jeff. Some of our members even made purchases which will not only benefit their cars; it will benefit one of TM3’s great sponsors!
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1686.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1682.jpg
Jeff even put on a demonstration using his father’s 2006 Mazda3 Sport. One of the products he currently had in stock was a “plug and play” subwoofer which plugs into the stock audio system of the Mazda3 and works just as well as any wired subwoofer. I was inside the shop at the back during the time of the demonstration and even I could hear the thing pound! It impressed many of our members with its clear and impressive sound!
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/DSC03632.jpg
We also had a few visitors come by from Toronto Mazda 5 and Toronto Mazda 6. They came to join in the festivities and show off their cars! We had several Speed6’s as well as a very nicely done up Mazda5 come. I need to say; from someone who does not like Mazda5s that car sure did shine!
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1660.jpg
Special thanks also to Jeff and TM3 for sponsoring a pizza lunch for the group. Not only did it give our members more incentive to come out but it shows that our club is willing to go the extra mile to support our sponsors and the products they are selling. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we all had a fantastic time and feel very welcomed by Jeff.
Audio Heaven is located at 55 West Beaver Creek Unit 43, in Richmond Hill ON. For all of our members who did not attend the day’s events please pop in and see Jeff for all of your audio, tinting and car electronic needs! The prices are reasonable and the people are awesome. It is his own personal shop so there are no big-name markups or no sales pressure! Plus his prices are very reasonable and he’s such a nice guy. What’s not to lose? It’s worth the drive!

We also had a significant meet in Oakville this month with the showing of the 2010 Mazda 3s!
Quote:
Oakville Meet- Wednesday, February 11, 2009
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...rrent-cars.jpg
A change of day and a change of venue brought our west-end members out to Williams Coffee Pub in Oakville at Trafalgar and Dundas St. A bigger turnout than usual meant that there must have been a significant reason for our members to bear the pouring rain and get soaking wet (Unless you were Iceman_F1 with his golf umbrella :chuckle). And that reason was:
:hawt Two 2010 Mazda 3’s! :hawt Brought out by Jason and Andrew of Oakville Mazda!
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...-rain-shot.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r.../2010-shot.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1838.jpg
As we stood out in the rain we could not help but bask in the new features the Mazda3 boasts. We were lucky enough to have a GT manual sedan and a GT-E automatic hatch come out and the features on them were very impressive! Particularly on the GT-E was in-dash navigation, keyless entry, start and lock (button to lock the car is within the right tail light!) and since Oakville Mazda likes to spoil us they put Enkei rims on it to top it all off!
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1760.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1767.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_1776.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...IMG_1821-1.jpg
We then decided that getting wet and cold was overrated so we ran inside to Williams to talk, drink, eat and do other things:
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...ting-bunch.jpg
Aren’t you sad you missed this?!?!
And this too???:
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010-sedan.jpg
We also got to take a test drive in the manual GT sedan which was a very awesome ride. The driver (1flycdnM3) stated that the 2010 Mazda3 responds amazingly well as a stock vehicle and he said his 2005 only started responding similarly after modifications were done. As much as we may hate the exterior design of the 2010 3 this little car performs so very well! We were a very lucky bunch in Oakville that night!
Special thanks to Jason Guttman, President of Oakville Mazda, for bringing out his 2010 Mazda 3s and giving us all free tickets to the 2009 Autoshow. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to meet us all and spend a few hours with us. Jason was a very personable man and he was extremely nice. Being into his dealership as well, the entire staff at Oakville are ready to help you with any of your needs. If you’re in the area go visit them at 1291 Speers Rd. in Oakville ON and say hi to Andrew in Parts, Graham on the floor and the lovely Tiffany at Reception. You may be lucky enough to meet Jason too if he is there! Plus they support our TM3 discount too!
Thanks again Oakville Mazda!

Re: TM3 Times #8 - March 2009
Finally, many of our members trekked down to downtown Toronto in mid-February to go to this year's Autoshow- and thankfully some members brought pictures to TM3
Quote:
TM3 Does the 2009 Toronto Autoshow
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...94/dsc2319.jpg
This year’s autoshow, as similar to previous years, brought our Toronto Mazda 3 members to downtown Toronto to the 2009 Canadian International Autoshow. The event was held from February 13 to the 22 in the two regular venues of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the Rogers Centre.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...94/dsc2394.jpg
For the members of the club that attended the Oakville meet on February 11, their admission was paid for graciously by Oakville Mazda. Others still managed to find $15-$20 from their own pockets to bask in the glory of all of the great cars on display. S.F.W. even managed to put together a small meet for three members to attend together on February 19.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...ela_294/s1.jpg
Like usual, Mazda put out a fantastic showing at this year’s autoshow. It was disappointing that they did not have their concept cars at this year’s autoshow but they did have every model of their current fleet on the floor. In the mix were a couple 2010 Mazda 3s as well. Walking around the Mazda display I found mixed reviews from people viewing the 2010 Mazda 3 and the new 2009 RX-8 (redesigned similarly to the 2010 3). Some people really loved the exteriors and some hated it.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_0206.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/IMG_0200.jpg
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...94/dsc2559.jpg
Overall, this year’s autoshow was very well put together. Some were disappointed with the lack of big names like Lamborghini and Ferrari putting on a good show like last years but all in all, the show proved to bring back the big names and the crowd pleasers! Let’s hope this doesn’t happen next year though:

Now, what you have all been waiting for: Thoughts from the Pulpit from our very own Cardinal Fang
Quote:
The opinions expressed are those of a slightly on edge online character named Cardinal Fang and not necessarily those of the TorontoMazda3.ca. Any resemblance between Cardinal Fang and a an actual Roman Catholic Cardinal is purely coincidental.
“A study commissioned by a phallically named insurance company in England proves beyond all doubt that the unbridled roar of an Italian supercar turns women on but the soft purr of a fuel-efficient econobox doesn’t stimulate anyone’s MPG-spot.”- Internet Auto Blog.
If this is in fact true than we as men have clearly underestimated women.
Again.:whoa
It’s that time of year again when car enthusiasts all over Ontario awake from their coma-like winter state in time to attend the Auto Show. So a couple of friends of mine decided to head on out to see what was there. As we walked through the maze of cars we finally ended up seeing some the more erotic….err I mean exotic cars that were on display. We saw the Lambos, the Ferrari’s, the Aston Martins and the very rare V12 Mercedes McLaren V12 SLR convertible panty remover. A bargain at a mere $495,000 U.S. You would never think to use the word bargain when referring to an exotic car. Or how about Value? Yes Virginia, believe it or not there is value in an exotic car and it depends on whether or not you’re a man or a women on how you look at it.
Lets take the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. Not the best version of a Ferrari hyper-car but still a very good example of luxury meets grabbing someone by the throat and beating their head to a Celine Dion song. Both men and women appreciate this car albeit from different points of the spectrum. For men it’s about image – “my penis will seem larger if I drive this” and for women it’s about how the car works with their lifestyle – “I don’t care how big he thinks his penis is I still manage to fall asleep, besides the colour will match my Manolo Blahniks.” For $395,000 U.S. your purchase comes complete with two plane tickets to the plant in Maranello Italy to have:
1)Your seat custom molded to your ass and..
2)To help you select your custom interior finishes with the aide of their design team.
Yes…that’s right. A DESIGN Team. It’s not enough that one design professional tell you that you have the aesthetic flare of the Dugger Family on TLC, but now Ferrari sees fit to have that point made painfully clear to you by an entire committee. OH JOY! So let’s recap here. For him – the ego stroke he needs, for her – a trip to Italy.
A women would read the specification on this car as:
“The 612 Scaglietti shares its naturally aspirated 5.7 L V12 engine with the 575M Maranello. The engine produces 533 hp at 7250 rpm and 433 ft/lbs of torque at 5250 rpm with a compression ratio of 11.2:1. The car is capable of 315 km/hr and has a 100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds. It comes with two six speed transmission options: a conventional manual or the F1A semi-automatic paddle shift system, a much refined version of the F1 system in the 360.”
A man would read the same specification like this:
“The 612 “Some Italian name I can’t pronounce properly but sounds really pompous,” shares its well endowed 5.7L Grunt filled V12 engine with the 575 Maranello. The engine produces more than 533 hp of testosterone, which coincidently, is enough to actually convert Meghan Fox into a man if there was any truth to that Internet rumor. It also has enough torque that translates into more “oohs,” “aahs” and “oh my god’s!” than any Vivid Porn movie starring Jenna Jameson. The car is capable of an astounding zero to getting two hot blondes in your bed with a midget filming the entire event in approximately 2.3 seconds, give or take few drinks. It comes with two six-speed transmission options; a F1A semi-blindly fast automatic paddle shift system or the much-refined version of the “clearly ridiculously fast” F1 system in the 360.”
The big issue on a car like this is maintenance. You have to get it done at the dealership. Once again the men get the massive ego stroke followed quickly by the bill. The average cost of an oil change on this car is approximately $8,000. That’s a tremendous value compared to the $10,000 oil change the Enzo Ferrari needs. Take that you “whiners” on the Mazda boards about your dealership costs. I’m saying this because my literary agent assured me this article would never be reproduced on a Mazda Enthusiasts Discussion board.
Finally to wrap up this month's Times:

I say, Rupert, this paste is quite delicious. It's almost worth the bowel obstruction!!

Gotta be prepared XD
It's almost always in my car...not that I need it TOO often, but it works out in cases like that. Kept my camera dry which is the most important thing :bana

Re: TM3 Times #8 - March 2009
The Autoshow this year (aside from Ferrari, Mercedes) was predominantly over-whelmed with the boring "same-old" for the most part, but Mazda (not-biased) put on a FANTASTIC showing of new vehicles we all are growing to love (and hate in some aspects) but no denying truly unique and industry-setting designs are starting with Mazda.... AGAIN!
The Oakville meets came to life again thanks to Jason & Andrew representing Oakville Mazda with FREE Autoshow tickets and a few new 3's for us to look at (and i drove!) so thanks again guys!
As for our new Editor of The Times, we are still "going strong" and really happy she has taken the reigns for all of us and doing a great job in Alex's absence (maybe even better than he did)..... ZING!

Speaking of sliding... Nah... I got nothing...
Maybe in the next TM3 times we could have a vote for the type of phones people have to see whether they use Blackberry messenger or others?
We could compile some sort of Blackberry PIN list.
Just an idea?

As awesome as that may be the times is designed to inform people about the TM3 community and what's happening in and around it.
I may have a few ideas for stories but nothing nearly to the caliber of my last two issues. I will be deemed a slacker! We shall see though. Angela is not one to disappoint!
