    Default Thule roof rack?

I searched in the forums and apparently the OEM roof rack is made by Thule, does anyone know the Thule part number??, just cant believe Mazda Charges 469 for it when i can get the load bars with canoe accesory for about that same price, but i would like to use the same load bars as the OEM

I was looking at going OEM too but went aftermarket due to cost. Also if I decided to sell the car, I can just buy a different fit kit to work with the new car,

I got mine through Flippy@MoT. The discount was worth it.

I'm getting mine through this site:
    http://www.mazdarack.com/

I haven't received it yet. But communication has been good so far. Basically, it's a guy from Quebec that orders them from Europe. It's basically the aftermarket Thule rack that fits in the factory mount. They only sell it in Europe, so that company takes care of importing it for you. A cheaper solution then the OEM but the same great fit... I think.

That's actually a different model rack. It's the aluminum one. The OEM one is all steel I think. Make sure all the locks are included! You don't want to have to buy them separately as they are really expensive.

Yeah... I don't know if that one's better or worse, but it's definitely different from the one Mazda sells here.

I wouldn't expect anything less than good from Thule though.

They offer two models. One that's the old style square black bars, and one that's the extruded aluminum.

I ordered the complete kit (lock, bars, mount) with the square black bar and it came to 300 dollars tax in and shipped to my door. Might be a bit more if you go with the more stylish aluminum extrusion. Not sure exactly how much.

Will try to give feedback once I get it.

Well, rack attack (http://www.rackattack.com) has the OEM thule rack, although its a bit more expensive than at the dealership, but they promised they are on the works to bring one better and cheaper some time on april, anyways, i decided on going for a thule, but not the OEM, as i can use it on my other car as well.

Here's a little feedback from the rack I bought (Thule rack imported from Europe by this company: http://www.mazdarack.com/

Price was 300 dollars. Transaction went well. I ended up picking it up in Montreal during a road trip.

Install was really easy (fairly typical to Thule product). Fit is pretty much perfect. No complains. Looks pretty slick.
A picture is worth a 1000 words so check to final result.

Did it not come with clear protective decals to protect the paint? The OEM comes with them.

No. Are you talking about a 3M protective film (similar to a clear bra)?
I was thinking about putting a strip on too, but after I installed the rack I decided that it barely touches the paint and mostly rest on the track.
But now you're making me think about it again. Do you have pictures of it so I can see how it looks? Maybe I'll buy some film and do the same. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about. My OEM rack does sit on both the track and the paint. The paint would definitely get damaged under a heavy load if I didn't put the film on that it came with. They're a PITA to apply because you have to custom-cut them. But mine turned out pretty good in the end.

I'll certainly take pics for you as soon as I can.

    Hello,
I am thinking of putting a roof rack on my M3 sedan, 2007. This is my only car and I am really fed up of asking for delivery or friends to help me when I buy a piece of drywall or whatever from the Home Depot, which is just a block away from my house.

I was wondering if anybody can give me an idea for the cheapest solution around (Richmond Hill, Toronto, Markham, Vaughan).

Do I need to buy the original mouldings and attach a rack to them, or can I get away with just a rack like the one, described above?

    Thanks!

The site is in French. Is there an English site? Or is it going to be coming soon?

The Rack-import site, which is the non Mazda specific(but still has MAzda info) version of the site, has an English option.
