    Question Moving - Trailer Towing

    Hi all,

I am moving to Calgary as of next week and obviously have a few bigger things that need to be brought out.

I looked through my manual, a 2008 GT mazda 3, 5-speed, and it says that towing is not allowed.

I need to buy a trailer hitch obviously and get that installed.

My question is.. if I want to tow a utility trailer such as the link below, would the mazda 3 be able to tow it?

It will basically have a mattress, bed frame, 1 book case and a few boxes full of miscellaneous goods

    Any help would be great

Will you be driving from Toronto to Calgary? How far of a distance will you be towing?

You should be good, but I'd consider getting special tranny fluid and take all proper precautions when towing.

You better take breaks every few hours at the least.

The owner's manual talks about the 'maximum loaded trailer weight' under the 'Tire Information' section among other things like The 'Gross Combined Weight Rating' (GCWR), which is on the driver's door frame...Your car is a 2008 model, I only have 2006. It might be different.

My MS3 pulled a trailer just fine. Just be sure to rev the engine up more, ease it to 4000-4500rpm to make your shifts. Don't go more than 3/4 throttle. Shift down a gear to go up hills, even if they take a while. Going up hills at 4500 rpm steady is much easier on the car than stressing it out at 3000.
