Some $700 an a "lifetime guarantee". I'm a bit wary of such "upsells" but I'm willing to keep an open mind. What do you think?

Haggle them down on the mazda packages, they will go down a lot if you are getting it from the dealer. You can probably get it for a lot cheaper then it is advertised for. It's what I did to get my package
I got that package I think and in mu opinion it is worth it. Mine was done over 3 years ago and it still looks good, even the engine compartment and door areas.
They will also touch it up as needed. Mine needs to be touched up where rocker panels meet rest of the body (skirt?) but that's about it after three years.
2010 Mazda 3 GS (daily driver)
2008 Mercedes-Benz C230 4MATIC Sport + Premium Package (wife's car)
1991 Honda Civic Hatchback DX (parted and wrecked)
I think anyone that spends $700 on rustproof has to convince themselves and others that "its worth it.".
2004 Mazda3 Sport GT|Winning Blue| OG 2.3L @ 545,000 km & counting
How is that different than going to Krown every year for 7 years and spending $100 each time??
All I have to do is ask them to touch-up the areas before inspection plus you get rust-proofing of engine compartment and in between doors. But that is your opinion of course and mine is different than yours.
The difference? You've put out $700 now instead of spread over 7 years for one. Secondly, what kind of protection is it? a wax? a tar? These will not protect your car for the long term. Did you do any investigation/study into the subject before throwing your money at them?

Would have to whip out the brochure they gave me when I bought the car but I think it's tar, been under my car a couple of times and its black but it could be dirt lol... The package includes if rust occurs on any of the body panels too.
If they will replace anything they paint the rusted paneling and parts under the body that are rust are also warrantied. Mazda has a legit deal from what I saw. Paying the advertised price is always taking a hit though. I paid $400 for the sprays(will check to see what product they use), touch ups and lifetime rust protection. Of course... as always... warranty is only as good as when you have to use it.
Guess you have to own your car for a while to make it worth it. I plan to keep my MS3 until I have no more reason to drive it.
$400 + hst = $452 ( say good for 10 years)
10 years of crown $1000 + hst = $1130
plus.. 452 /10 years / 12months = $3.76 a month.. = $45.20 a year. so less then half over the same amount of time.
in a 5 year finance - 452/5/12 = $7.53 a month. $90.40.
so still cheaper.
