hehe, was hard to hear cause of people in the background. anyawy,, just been researching for hours on the rods to see what their limit is on the 2.5l. turns out they should be the same as the 2.3l, the bore and the crank lift are what make up the displacement. that being said, i dont want to throw a rod. anything over 220whp, and your asking for trouble, especially if you raise the rpms. cosworth claims that 220bhp is when you should change the rods and that a fuel rail with larger injectors will be needed at 200 bhp which is about where im at now, but have not needed it yet. so skeptical about their numbers, others on the mx5, mazda 6 sites think that 250hp is the max before the rods start to break. keeping it at 6100 or around there should help keep the rods intact, in theory hopefully. planning to just do the cams for now to see how the car takes to it. then go from there. if need be, forged parts and higher rpms in the future

hopefully around 210-215 whp to start with before serious engine part replacement down the road.

tbh, id be happy with over 200whp and a much longer/smoother power band with the stage 1 cams.
tuning, will be the most important part as it looks like the timing is gonna get screwed up big.

right now the options are between cosworth (YD0222, YD0173) or the crower stage 1. atm, leaning more towards the crower (slightly more duration, but equal to 9-9.5mm lift).

are you worried about blowing your motor? i mean you seem to be the first one to go this hot and heavy on the NA motor build. any concerns about what it will push or when it make break? if so do you have any back up plans? spare motor or something to that effect to minamize any down time?

being the first is part of the fun . joking aside, ofcourse im a bit worried. risk wise, im going through with it cause i have seen other builds with boost running 10+psi on the 2.5's with much higher whp and the rods have not broken yet.

found an example where after 2.5yrs at 242whp or around 280bhp with occasional track use, rod broke on a gen 1 boosted 8psi with a tri-point kit GT2871R.

if the engine does go for shit, then its just another opportunity for a complete 2.3l forged build. I justify the risk by seeing how boost can be more detrimental to a stock n/a non-forged engine compared to just building it n/a.
also taking it slow to see how the car handles stage 1 first. tbh, no one really knows for sure the exact +-5 range of hp/tq you will get out of the 2.5l if you add these cams. only seen vague quotes for the 2.3l. looked everywhere

currently am not driving the car during the week, and have access to two other vehicles, so downtime personally is not an issue for work purposes anymore. (basically made a deal with mom, she gets my car for the week and i get to drive her car (04 accord) to and from work. fair deal no? , kinda scary since she has a heavier foot than me for driving!) the car might get out once or twice a week. like i said before, have been thinking about turning the car into a designated track beast way down the road and just driving around a beater most of the time as 99% of my driving is to and from work now which is atm stop and go traffic on the dvp/404. but when i do drive my car, its just that much more fun and i appreciate it that much more.

first gen sprint booster put on the car thx to mcguyver. throttle response seems much better, but shifting between gears and helping put the power down quicker is where this product shines imo. got it for half price. but tbh, would not have bought this had it been the full 300$. def overpriced piece of equipment for the actual materials used and slight benefit.

Went for a rip in Justin's car today and damn was it fun! Sprint booster definitely made a noticeable difference, but I have to agree that it's over priced at $300.

^^ LOL. now its time to get new lifters. supposedly i need to get new ones for longevity. http://www.crower.com/media/pdf/cam_book.pdf
also cam bolt, diamond washers, head gasket, and head studs. missing anything? comment if yes, plz.

edit: ffs, everytime i do more research i find something i missed. now it looks like break in engine oil/grease is very useful in preventative damage, doh.
