Buy or fix mazda 3

so i'm abit stuck on what i should do.

I'm stepping into the mazda world now and i'm in the gta.

I have two options.
Finance a mazda 3 2006 thats roughly 3000 before tax,
no etest or safety yet. extra $499 i believe but i'll check it fix it myself and get it done at my friends shop for alot cheaper.

Or but a 2004 mazda 3 with rod knocking hatch 2.3 all leather and sunroof. not sure what model it is.
for roughly 1000 bucks, and put a 2.3 jdm engine in it.

also i tried searching alot in this forum, but does the jdm just fit in same stock engine?
anything to change what swapping it?
i heard compression ratio is higher on jdm which gives it more hp.

If you have to finance $3000 your never gonna be able to swap in a jdm engine.

I got quoted 2000 for jdm engine and labor.

i was just gonna finance the 3000, cause i was gonna do the first couple payments, pay $2000 another month, then the rest is easy cause it isn't that much left.

Is the jdm engine more reliable than the north american 2.3?

swapping in the JDM motor shouldn't really be an issue I don't think as I can't imagine them being drastically different as it would have come up somehere before.

The 2004 would be a GT model as all 04 hatches were GTs

So probably a common question. Should i get this gt, or go for a sedan 06 everything but leather and sunroof.

i would go for the newer car personally but its your choice really. cant say without knowing much about either's condition amongst other things to consider

We would need more info on both cars to make an informed decision.

An 06 for 3 grand to me spells trouble.

I bought mine last month for $8,800, and i already thought that was a overly good price.

If you can't afford a car, nothing wrong with taking public transit. Did it for most of my 28 years. Hell i did it today!

Bought mine Dec 2010 for $9600 07 Sedan 2.0L. 74k km.

Like someone mentioned, an 06 for $3k is a problem. What's the mileage? any maintenance record? at all?
