I was planning on doing something similar but good luck finding a hardware store that has metric sized carriage bolts that are large enough. I found somewhere who had them on special order but it would bump up the cost too high considering I was trying to DIY. I used this guide but doubled up on the rope clamps:

    http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344210

it's solid as **** is completely flush and looks identical from the front, however I'd suggest keeping a wrench in your car in case you need a tow. I have no pics of it on my car, I'll snap some whenever it warms up a little and my 3 isnt gross looking.

Ya, metric is not as common as imperial in hardware stores since most construction is based on imperial. You have to go to the fastener supply places. It is more expensive but you'll still be spending less making it yourself.

fastenal has the threaded rods. price is by the meter. since 1 meter can make about 3, we can get a group buy going.

price for the meter is about $25. so thats roughly 8:50 per person? that is gen 1 and gen 2 specific

Actually when I made mine I only used a 150mm length and there was still a bit extra. With a full meter you could make 8 using 120mm lengths so it would cost even less. If anyone doesn't have the time or tools to make them I can offer to make them as a kit if enough people are interested.

Hm I just posted a reply that didn't know up. Not sure if it's pending mod approval or if I clicked the wrong button but here it is again. Sorry if it's a repost!

So it seems like there's some interest in a kit. I need to look into which sizes are for which years. I don't feel like making too many different sizes.
I haven't looked into the resources and time I'll need to make these but I will let you guys know.

If you guys could put your model years next to your names so I can check thread sizes it would be great. Also, if you know your thread size for sure then posting that would help as well.

So far, the people who are interested are:

Oh also, if there are any mods or members around who can answer, am I setting myself up for forum trouble by trying to get interest for this kit? Does this fall under a group buy if I'm the one making and selling these?

    Thanks!

I don't want to make this a problem with the forum even though mods have okay'ed this one. If anyone wants details about the tow plate or anything, shoot me a PM.

Ah S.F.W. just mentioned on the GB that you have a gen1 so the M20 won't fit. Not sure if you'll have any luck at a local hardware store finding M16 (I think that's what EastYork3 said his '09 is).

Btw, all you GTA guys, if you want to get a bolt either for gen1 or gen2, there is one place I know of, it's Brafasco on Jane and Langstaff in Vaughan. That's where I got mine from. Home Hardware has the size but only Imperial. Home depot doesn't have shit.

To warm you, I bought a 6 inch M16 bolt and it cost me $20. But it's coated in yellow zinc so it won't rust. $20 isn't so bad considering rhoplate and the like charge around 80
