Keep the RPMs between 1500 and redline, and you'll be good to go.
CURRENT: 2009 Subaru Impreza STI | 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 | 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD | 2009 BMW X5 3.5d
GONE: Apparently too many cars to list in the signature....

sorry your right pacman, more so about the speed to shift not the rpm.
This might help
2007 Mazda 3i ~ 2.0 ~ Silver ~ Manual ~ 17% Tint all around ~ Footwell lights ~ 18" GP Racing GR5 ~ Smoked side markers & reflectors ~ 8000k HID ~ Vmaxx Coilovers ~ VG Sharkfin ~ CorkSport Skidplate
unless your drag racing, i think its pretty useless. city/daily driving, the shift rpm all depends on the current circumstance.
Leave it in first until the engine light comes on. Then shift to second. Best performance. :
The FR-S/BRZ has a shift light and an audio indicator which you can adjust in 100 RPM increments or disable completely.

Driving, you don't look at the tachometer. Just listen to the sound and shift at the pitch that makes you feel happy!
With my last car, a 1.6L NA diesel Golf, I used the rear view mirror as a shift light. When the black exhaust smoke got thick enough to be visible I knew I was riding the governor and it was time for another gear. There was no tach, the engine made more noise at idle than my Mazda does at redline so I couldn't use engine note as a shift indicator, and with 50 peak horsepower it wasn't like power dropped off noticeably if I let the governor actually shut it down.
;P
What would J.R. Ewing do in this situation?
The question which unlocks the solutions to all life's problems.
Lol, shift lights. Come on. Those are only good for F1 cars where revs go up to 16000 and you need a light because you are going 150 km/h into a turn so that you get enough downforce for your tires to grip the road.
On a road car with 150 hp, you need something known as a brain. Listen to your engine, keep an eye on your revs and learn. Lol.
Holy Dead Thread Revival Batman!
Lock?
my car manual says at what speeds to shift, so i took note what my RPMs were at these speeds and now shift either at 2,500 RPM (best fuel economy; level ground) or 2,750 (last line before 3,000; better performance; going uphill). my fuel economy improved in the city. before i used to shift at 4,000 or 5,000 RPM
