    Angry my seat broke....

Hey, so the otger day I was puttin along home from school and as I nicely stopped at a red light my seat sudenly made a clunk sound and my front left side fell forward. I pulled over to investigate.

So looking at this picture you may not k otice anything weird.... until.

Now I am sure you knotice the broken bracket. Mazda Canada will not cover this as a defect. Wtf? Why not? Im not exsactly 400LBS. So in saying that a new one costs about $750 and 550 for used and that gets you a seat too. This is not including install which im sure I could do myself.

My question at this point is would I be able to weld this or do you think the frame is pooched? Like I can weld it. I am a welder lolI am just curious if this has happened to anyone else yet and can anyone else add aanything more.

If I did it myself as in weld it, would anyone know if I would need a tork wrench? And what would be the lbs to that?

hm. I would give you my seats, but I don't think GenJuan seats fit in genpu. If you were to weld it in, you wouldn't need a torque wrench (im assuming things)

The area of the piece that broke is below the weld.

I realise that. It shoud still be able to be welded.. I was just getting at if they are relying on a weld i wouldnt see why you couldnt welt it back tonther..

Or fab up a piece.. I just know i wouldnt be paying 500 for that.

Unfortunitly I am going to have to take the seat out to do this and find someone with a half decent mig machine. I cant see a hobby one doing the job in this case lol.

    Yup..

Below where the weld is from factory the metal piece is cracked.

If your a welder, i would just weld it. it cant be worse then what was there for it to snap like that.

You are a welder and you're asking on the internet if this could be welded?
I'm not a welder, but I can see that the crack is below the existing weld and that could pose a problem with the strength of the new weld.
In any case, I would take it to a pro welder and get his opinion on this.

Yo dawg, we heard you like welding, so we took your weld, which had another weld underneath and took it to a pro welder who welded it all up. Weldtastic

just tig weld it and be done with it
you won't be able to get to the other side unless you can figure out how to take off the frame

Tig welding is unneeded. A mig will do fine. I am going to attempt to take the full frame off but from what I can see Ii shouldnt need to to weld both sides. Even tho I think that is not necessary.

I would suggest Mazda Canada again. Give them a very detailed explanation for why this should be considered as a defect and request for warranty work. Some persistence may pay off! First hand experience for the rusted roof issue I posted a month ago.

    Cheers

overkill is better than "just fine"... tig welds are cleaner and obviously stronger... the repeated abuses a seat gets needs something strong to hold it together, especially how much role it plays in crash safety

I wont say much but if you understand strength factors of a weld you would know a bead layed down by mig is generally stronger than the steel itself. I would stick weld this if I were still in hamilton and had the tools to do so. If I can get the seat off the frame I may consider acetylene welding it. But atm mig is in my favour. Even if I wanted to tig weld this I know no one who owns a tig welder besides small local shops.

File a complaint with Transport Canada. This is a safety issue. You are not the only one to have this problem. When Transport Canada has enough complaints then they will issue a recall to Mazda Canada to fix this.

    https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur....aspx?lang=eng

If anyone has fixed this save your receipts. You own any part that any mechanic fixes on your vehicle, regardless of how big of a problem it is. If Mazda replaces the part at no cost (for the part to you), they own the part.

Mine broke too, in exact the same spot, Transport Canada sent an Adjuster out to document the issue after I filed. It will costs approx. $1300 to fix this. I am in talks with strong arming the dealership to fix this.
